Hello everyone,
I recently assembled some Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets with drawers. I noticed that the drawers don’t always operate smoothly or properly. Sometimes they stick or don’t close evenly, which is quite frustrating.
My question is: How can I ensure that the Ikea Metod drawers run perfectly after assembly? Are there proven techniques or tips for adjusting, fine-tuning, or reworking the drawers so they glide smoothly and align precisely?
I have the impression that it’s not just about the initial assembly but also about making adjustments afterwards.
Thanks in advance for your experiences and helpful advice!

For precise adjustment of the Ikea Metod drawers, it is crucial to correctly operate the adjustment mechanisms on the slides:
- The side adjustment screws allow for height adjustment of the front panel; small turns are sufficient.
- Some models include screws for depth adjustment to align the front flush with the cabinet.
- Proper installation of the sliding rails without any tilting is essential.
- To ensure smooth operation, the rails and rollers should be regularly checked for dirt and cleaned if necessary.
Regarding the screws: Tighten them firmly by hand and avoid applying excessive force afterward to prevent material stress. Even slight overtightening can negatively affect the slide function.
Lubricants should be silicone-based only, as other oils can attract dust and cause the mechanism to jam.

Even a slightly tilted carcass can cause properly adjusted drawers to stick or catch.
I recommend:
- Checking all carcasses with a spirit level before assembling the drawers.
- If necessary, using small shims under the cabinet feet to compensate for unevenness.
Only when the entire piece of furniture is in place does precisely adjusting the drawers make sense.
This helps avoid multiple rework steps.

If perfection is important, you should generally opt for higher-quality solutionsThat may be true, but for everyday use, Metod drawers are perfectly fine when installed carefully.
My tip: If the front is misaligned, simply adjust the adjustment screws on the front mount properly. Many people try to fix it with too much force, but often it only takes a few millimeters (inches) of adjustment.
Once set correctly, they work smoothly and last a long time.
