Hello everyone,

I am currently planning a renovation of my IKEA Metod kitchen and am looking for tips on how to carry out a quick yet reliable kitchen remodel using the Metod system. My goal is to make the process as smooth as possible without compromising on stability or long-lasting quality. I am particularly interested in advice on preparation, assembly, and common pitfalls to avoid when working with Metod.

I already have some basic knowledge, but I feel uncertain especially about the disassembly and reassembly of the cabinets as well as integrating appliances. Does anyone have practical experience with this type of renovation and can share guidance on the individual steps – from planning through dismantling to the final installation?

I look forward to your helpful tips.

Hello Leonardo57,

here are some more detailed answers to your questions and comments:

- For older cabinet fronts, it is advisable to use screws with a thin felt or rubber washer under the screw head. This helps prevent the screw from penetrating too deeply and protects the wood from cracking.
- Soft-close drawer slides should first be fixed in their basic position, then adjust the side screws. Make sure that the rails are aligned parallel; otherwise, the mechanism may become distorted.
- Corner brackets at the back are central, but the connection between two cabinet units as well as securing them to the wall should not be neglected. Please be sure to use appropriate wall plugs and screws to safely handle the loads.
- Some people also use additional metal connectors at the corners to improve stability.

How large is your kitchen area? Are there any uneven spots on the floor that still need to be leveled? This will make the installation significantly easier.

I would like to add the following regarding the sequence for an efficient transition:

- Dismantling:
- Empty the cabinets
- Remove and label the fronts to know later which carcass belongs where
- Carefully detach internal drawers and countertops
- Disassemble and store the carcasses

- Preparation of the new installation area:
- Level the floor with leveling compound if necessary
- Adjust water and electrical connections as needed

- Installation:
- Assemble and align the carcasses first without fronts
- Check the function of drawers and doors, and adjust if necessary
- Fit and secure the countertop, sink, and appliances
- Mount fronts and handles

Labeling in particular helps maintain an overview and speeds up the work. I would never skip it.

That sounds like a very good idea, especially since I want to keep the fronts as original as possible. Where is the best place to get these felt strips in the right size?

That is a very practical method that I will definitely use. Thanks for the clear organization of the steps.

Yes, the floor is not completely even, so I will probably use a leveling compound. Do you have any tips on how to best prepare and carry out this step?
