Hello everyone,

I am currently planning a renovation of my IKEA Metod kitchen and am looking for tips on how to carry out a quick yet reliable kitchen remodel using the Metod system. My goal is to make the process as smooth as possible without compromising on stability or long-lasting quality. I am particularly interested in advice on preparation, assembly, and common pitfalls to avoid when working with Metod.

I already have some basic knowledge, but I feel uncertain especially about the disassembly and reassembly of the cabinets as well as integrating appliances. Does anyone have practical experience with this type of renovation and can share guidance on the individual steps – from planning through dismantling to the final installation?

I look forward to your helpful tips.

Hi Leonardo57,

it is important to completely empty the cabinets and remove the internal drawers before dismantling. During assembly, make sure to use all fasteners precisely as required to ensure the kitchen is stable. For the electrical and appliance connections, it is best to hire qualified professionals.

Hello Leonardo57,

to plan your renovation accurately and safely, I recommend the following steps:

- Measure the cabinet dimensions precisely in advance and include them in the new design, also taking into account wall and floor unevenness.
- Before dismantling, sort all screws with a suitable bit – it is crucial not to lose anything, as Metod components often have special fittings.
- The carcasses are secured to the back wall using corner brackets; these should be positioned exactly during reassembly to ensure stability.
- For installing the countertop, use the original Metod connectors and repeatedly check the alignment with a spirit level.
- Often overlooked is securing the wall cabinets; it is advisable to use additional anchoring points so that the load does not rest on just a few wall plugs.

Also: Are you using new fronts already, or will you keep the originals? Depending on the front material, different screwing techniques can be applied to avoid surface damage.

Are drawers or pull-outs with soft-close the focus? These require precise adjustment during reassembly.

Which appliances are to be built in? Here, exact measurements and connection preparations are also important; sometimes placing the appliances provisionally helps in advance.

I look forward to your answers so that I can better assess how detailed my advice should be.

Thanks, danial60, that’s an important point. I’m working with the original white Metod fronts, which were installed some time ago. They’re fixed to the frame, so it would be good to avoid scratches — what should I pay special attention to?

Yes, all the pull-outs have soft-close. Is there a trick to getting the adjustment exactly right so nothing rubs or runs too tight?

I agree with that — but which fasteners are the most important for stability in Metod cabinets? Are the corner brackets on the back the key ones, or are there others? I’m planning to start the kitchen renovation in a few days, so the order of work steps should be as efficient as possible.

Quick tip for soft-close drawers: After installation, lightly oil the drawer slides and then tighten the plastic guides by hand. If they rub, simply make minor adjustments.

When it comes to fasteners, the corner brackets and base supports are crucial for stability. Do not screw in too deeply, otherwise the cabinet will not sit properly.

Hey Leonardo57, really exciting that you’re starting this project! 🙂

I’d recommend completely unscrewing the cabinets before the renovation and working in small teams, which speeds things up a lot. Also, make sure to check the level in several places to ensure it’s perfectly aligned—this saves a lot of frustration later on!

Don’t worry about the installation – sometimes these connections can be a bit tricky, but if you follow the instructions step by step, it will go great. I recently renovated my kitchen and can only say: stick with it, the final result is amazing!
