Hello everyone,

I have a question about the best way to clean Ikea Metod glass fronts without leaving unpleasant streaks or even scratches.

I use these fronts in my kitchen, which are quite prone to fingerprints and smudges, and I want to avoid using harsh cleaning agents or mechanical tools that could damage the surface.

Can someone recommend an effective method or suitable products to thoroughly and gently clean the glass fronts?

It is especially important to me that no ugly streaks remain and that the glass surface does not get scratched or become dull.

Thanks in advance for your tips!

Hello Birelu,

To start, it is important to use a microfiber cloth, as it does not cause scratches and effectively picks up dust and dirt.

I recommend the following cleaning method:
- First, lightly spray the surface with clean water or wipe it damp with a mist.
- Then you can use a mild glass cleaner formulation, ideally ammonia-free, as ammonia could damage the surface.
- Do not spray the cleaner directly on the glass; apply it to the cloth instead to avoid dripping and streaks.
- Gently polish with the dry microfiber cloth in circular motions until no streaks remain.

If you prefer home remedies, a mixture of water and a few drops of dish soap also works well. It is important to wring out the cloth thoroughly and avoid making the surface too wet.

Best regards!

To add to Ramon4’s advice:

I recommend removing any coarse dirt from the glass surfaces before cleaning to avoid scratches caused by particles stuck to the glass.

The ideal cleaning solution is distilled water mixed with a few drops of a neutral dishwashing detergent. Harsh chemicals, especially those containing ammonia or alcohol, should be avoided as they can damage the glass edge seal.

Please observe the following points:
- Do not spray directly onto the glass surfaces to prevent liquid from entering joints or frames.
- Use lint-free microfiber cloths.
- Avoid using abrasive sponges or rough cloths.

After cleaning, using a dry microfiber cloth helps remove any residue and prevents streaks.

This method ensures a streak-free finish and helps maintain the longevity of the glass fronts.

Simply wipe with a slightly damp microfiber cloth using a dishwashing detergent solution, then follow with a dry cloth. Do not apply pressure or use abrasive cleaners.

This prevents scratches and streaks.

Hey Birelu,

here’s a little lifehack for you: adding some vinegar to the water works great against streaks, and it leaves a fresh scent after cleaning. 🍋

I usually mix about 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water, then wipe everything down with a soft cloth and immediately polish gently with a second dry cloth – done, streak-free and shining.

Give it a try, it’s really fun when the glass surfaces shine so nicely!

Vinegar as a natural remedy is a good recommendation, but care should be taken with Metod glass fronts to avoid damaging the seals and edges.

I recommend not using the mixture too frequently or too concentrated and always using a well-wrung cloth to prevent leftover moisture.

In my experience, the gentlest method for long-term care is a combination of a mild cleaner, a microfiber cloth, and wiping dry afterward.
