Hello everyone, I am planning to customize my Ikea Pax wardrobe doors with glass panels and am looking for practical ideas and instructions. Specifically, I want to know how I can creatively alter the existing glass panels without completely replacing the doors, to give the wardrobe a more personal look. For example, I am interested in whether it is advisable to apply stickers, paint, or perhaps use films—of course considering the durability and appearance. Which materials and techniques work best for this? Do you have any tips on how to modify the glass panels as easily and cleanly as possible, without compromising the finish or functionality? Thanks in advance for any advice!

I would recommend adhesive films. This way, you can change them as often as you like without causing any damage.

Most IKEA PAX glass inserts are attached on one side only, which allows for careful removal.

Exactly, I want to emphasize this again. The frame of the glass inserts is usually made of plastic or wooden strips that can be gently pried off with a flat chisel or a plastic spatula. Be careful, as the strips are delicate and can break easily. I recommend working calmly and avoiding any force.

Keep in mind that some films are slightly translucent

That’s an important point: especially with frosted films, there are different levels of transparency. Some films provide only a matte appearance, while others have patterns that let through more or less light. For rooms with limited natural light, a film that is too dense is not ideal.

A general tip: when applying films, it’s advisable to moisten the surface with a fine spray mist (water with a few drops of dish soap). This allows you to position the film better and smooth out air bubbles.

One more question for you, Timur61: Are you planning to remove the doors yourself, or do you want to work directly on the mounted doors?

Thank you for the detailed advice! Ideally, I would like to remove the glass panels to work more easily. However, I haven’t yet checked exactly how they are fixed in my doors, and I’m concerned about damaging something when removing them. I will take a closer look tomorrow to see how it works with my PAX models.

Are there any common tricks for removing the panels from the most common PAX doors without damaging the mounts or the door itself?

Yes, PAX glass doors usually have inserts held in place from the inside by clips or brackets.

Procedure:

- Completely unhang the door, preferably with two people due to the weight.
- Examine the glass insert from the inside: typically, four clips or brackets are visible.
- Use a small screwdriver or a flat spatula to carefully bend or pry the clips away (be careful with plastic parts).
- Carefully remove the glass from the inside.

Important: Work slowly to avoid anything snapping or breaking. Photos of your door model can be helpful for more specific advice. If you are unsure, perform the disassembly wearing safety glasses and gloves.
