Hello everyone, I recently installed some Pax wardrobes from Ikea in my home, but I’m having trouble with the doors not closing properly. Some doors either stay slightly open or slam shut as if they’re not correctly aligned. I have already tried adjusting the hinges a bit, but so far without success.

My question is: What can I specifically do if the Pax doors don’t close correctly? Are there certain adjustments or steps I should follow to align the doors properly? Do you have any experience with this issue and tips on how to fix it permanently?

Thank you in advance for your help!

I would first check the hinges. Most Pax doors have two adjustment screws: one for depth and one for height. Simply turn the screws carefully until the doors fit properly and close smoothly.

Often, it also helps to completely loosen the hinges and rehang the door. This way, you can precisely realign it from the start, and the closing mechanism should work better.

Hello Rowantan, I’d like to give you a brief guide on how to systematically approach this issue:

- First, check if the hinges are mounted correctly and if any screws are loose.
- Then, adjust the door height using the top screw on the hinge to change the alignment with the side panel.
- The middle screw controls the depth, meaning how close the door sits to the cabinet frame.
- On some models, there is a side screw to adjust the gap between the door and the adjacent door or cabinet body.
- Make sure to make small adjustments rather than large turns when changing the position.

Finally, open and close the doors several times to ensure the mechanism operates smoothly. If jamming or knocking still occurs, the hinge might be defective.

I can understand how frustrating it can be when the doors don’t close properly. I had a similar experience and was almost ready to take the cabinets apart again. But a little patience helped. The important thing is not to get frustrated right away, but to approach it step by step. Sometimes it also helps to ask friends for a second opinion. I hope you manage to fix it quickly!

Hello Rowantan, I would like to add that the Pax doors often have a so-called snap lock mechanism. This ensures that the doors close gently and completely when properly adjusted. If the doors are not closing correctly, please check the following first:

- Are all the hinges properly recessed and installed without misalignment?
- Are the connecting profiles of the doors undamaged and straight?
- Can the hinge be optimized by slightly turning the adjustment screw?

To adjust, use a Phillips screwdriver to turn the screw on the hinge gently, preferably only 1/4 turn at a time, and then test opening and closing. This way, you can precisely determine which screw affects the door position. If you like, I can send you a step-by-step guide.
