I am planning to install an Ikea Metod kitchen cabinet with sliding doors in a very tight space and am facing some challenges. Specifically, I need advice on how to mount the cabinets optimally when there is very little side clearance available, while still allowing enough room for the sliding doors to open properly. Are there any special installation tips or alternative mounting methods that work better in this situation? Adjusting the sliding doors is also important to me, as there isn’t much room to move in tight spaces. Has anyone had experience with Metod cabinets plus sliding doors in small, confined areas and can explain in detail the best way to handle this?

An additional recommendation: Use rail clips or holders offered by Ikea or third-party suppliers for Metod systems. They securely fix the sliding rails, reducing the risk of jamming in tight spaces. Also, when mounting to the wall, make sure to have a stable substructure, such as wooden battens behind the wall if the wall materials are weak. This significantly increases stability.

If the room is extremely narrow, I also recommend choosing the lightest door options (e.g., panels with less glass or material). The less weight on the track, the easier the system operates, even when the space for adjustments is limited.

The biggest challenge in tight spaces is the track for the sliding doors.
Absolutely. A secure mounting of the track is crucial; otherwise, the doors' operation will suffer.

Exactly, and it is especially important to choose the right type of anchor. For drywall, simple anchors usually aren’t sufficient; specialized hollow wall anchors or backing wooden panels for mounting are better options.

First, assemble the cabinet fully outside of the tight space.

That's exactly what I did, and it really saves a lot of stress! When you have to deal with the sliding doors, there’s more room to experiment, and you don’t have to constantly twist yourself around. 😊

In summary, I would say: planning according to the room dimensions, securely fixing the sliding tracks, having a second person assist with alignment, and assembling the cabinet completely before installing the sliding doors are the most important points. This helps avoid unnecessary stress in tight spaces and ensures smooth operation in the long term.
