Hello everyone,

we are nearing the completion of the detailed planning phase and the start of construction. I’ve already gone through the whole “I want everything until I want nothing” phase regarding smart home features. By now, I would simply like to be able to operate the roller shutters and blinds via an app.

Here are the requirements:
  • Wired switches
  • Central switch for scenes
  • Control via app / possibly also remotely
  • Wind sensor is not necessary; I would prefer to control that remotely if needed. At work, this is handled with KNX, but it’s rather unsatisfactory (the shutters keep going up and down, etc.)
  • I’m not keen on “old-fashioned” controls like small displays or astro timers
What options are currently under consideration?
So far, it looks like only the Gira System 3000 with a Bluetooth module (remote control would then be difficult) is a candidate, or alternatively adding Shelly or flush-mounted actuators (e.g., Bosch, etc.).

I’ve already read and researched pretty much everything about KNX, Loxone, Hager Easy, Homematic, Somfy radio, Zigbee, Z-Wave, and similar systems. Somehow, I seem to be missing something simple or haven’t yet seen a solution that covers the above requirements.

What else is out there, or what would you recommend? Does anyone know the Gira System 3000?

Thanks very much for your experience and advice!

No, you’re right!
After removing the adapter plate, the QR code is visible on the roller shutter actuator. 😀
For the thermostat, the QR code is on the back, but a large-format QR code is also included.
I’m looking forward to the initial setup since there is no power or Wi-Fi connected yet.

The setup is completely straightforward and goes quite quickly. I’m glad you found what you were looking for and expect that you will be satisfied 🙂

I’ll join the discussion here. Basically, I’m not interested in a smart home system. Mainly because I don’t want to deal with it, and for the past 46 years, I’ve managed to turn on the lights with a switch when entering a room. I can understand the fascination, but I see it more as a hobby — one I neither have time for nor interest in.

BUT: we are planning quite large windows on the south side, which will require shading with external venetian blinds in summer, as otherwise the house will probably heat up a lot (KFW55 with controlled ventilation). That’s why I’m looking for a SIMPLE way to automate the shading for these windows — meaning when the sun is shining on them, the blinds go down.

I saw at Bosch that this can be done based on room temperature. In your opinion, is this a reasonable approach or just a workaround? Are there simpler, more reliable, or cheaper solutions?

If you need more information, please let me know.

Thanks in advance for your support!

Wherever the QR code is located. Essentially,

Relying solely on room temperature is insufficient and too late. By the time the room is warm, it’s already too late to shade effectively. The heat has already built up inside.

Room temperature can be used as an additional factor but not as the main trigger. Solar intensity and outdoor temperature are more relevant, especially when combined with the sun’s position and angle.

Unfortunately, Bosch does not (yet?) offer a straightforward solution.

There are hardly any options simpler than Bosch, but controlling the system via room temperature is not really practical.

As a workaround, some people use outdoor temperature sensors, meaning they place the Bosch sensor outside...

Alternatively, you can use the light sensor of a “Philips Hue motion sensor,” positioning it where the action takes place and then triggering blind opening/closing through a scenario.

That was exactly my thought...

And what would such a setup ideally look like? Which components do I need for my really minimalist requirements? 😀
It’s only about automated shading for 6 windows.

Thanks!

Well, it’s clearly stated. Temperature sensors inside and outside. Solar radiation outside from three directions: east, south, and west, plus the software processing of all this, including calculating the sun’s position. Also important are the time dependency and presence detection.

How to implement this with Bosch equipment, I’m not sure. In my opinion, Bosch is more for getting a basic idea.
