Hello everyone,

we are nearing the completion of the detailed planning phase and the start of construction. I’ve already gone through the whole “I want everything until I want nothing” phase regarding smart home features. By now, I would simply like to be able to operate the roller shutters and blinds via an app.

Here are the requirements:
  • Wired switches
  • Central switch for scenes
  • Control via app / possibly also remotely
  • Wind sensor is not necessary; I would prefer to control that remotely if needed. At work, this is handled with KNX, but it’s rather unsatisfactory (the shutters keep going up and down, etc.)
  • I’m not keen on “old-fashioned” controls like small displays or astro timers
What options are currently under consideration?
So far, it looks like only the Gira System 3000 with a Bluetooth module (remote control would then be difficult) is a candidate, or alternatively adding Shelly or flush-mounted actuators (e.g., Bosch, etc.).

I’ve already read and researched pretty much everything about KNX, Loxone, Hager Easy, Homematic, Somfy radio, Zigbee, Z-Wave, and similar systems. Somehow, I seem to be missing something simple or haven’t yet seen a solution that covers the above requirements.

What else is out there, or what would you recommend? Does anyone know the Gira System 3000?

Thanks very much for your experience and advice!

We have a complete smart home system from Rademacher and Philips Hue. Roller shutter control, weather station, window contacts, smoke detectors, cameras. Everything works perfectly. No need for expensive KNX.

Home automation in our house is entirely controlled by the Rademacher Homepilot3. Smoke detectors, window contacts, indoor and outdoor motion sensors, weather station, cameras, roller shutters, lighting, ventilation, heating, and garage door control are all integrated. The total cost with the building electrician was around 10,000 Euro (about 10,000 USD). Most of this was spent on the Hue spots and lamps. The only downside is the dependency on the manufacturer that comes with it. But there's always something.

So far, it’s just a list of components. A table of contents doesn’t make a book.

So:

I don’t think so, Tim (c).

But that’s just a side note.

Home automation in our house is completely managed through Homepilot3.

What is smart?
- Roller shutters operate automatically in the mornings and evenings.
- If a window door is open, the roller shutters do not close thanks to the window contacts.
- A weather station detects solar radiation and adjusts the roller shutters as needed, and the heating is lowered. When it gets colder outside, the heating turns up.
- When the smoke detectors activate, the roller shutters automatically open.
- The system displays open and closed doors.
- Roller shutters can be controlled manually and also with Alexa voice commands.
- Hue lighting is integrated with the motion sensors; those familiar with Hue know what’s possible. Lighting scenes, among other features.
- The house can be controlled remotely via smartphone.

The total cost was somewhat higher, 11,887€ (approximately), see attachment.
For us, this was the most cost-effective solution compared to KNX.
