ᐅ Which type of roller shutters are suitable for closed windows with just glazing?

We plan to install a large fixed window (2m wide (6.6 feet)) in the living room of our new build. Since there is already a double casement window in the room, we want a glass front on the other side. Due to its width, the window will not be operable.

We find it inconvenient that the electric roller shutter to be installed cannot be cleaned from the inside.

Is there a solution for this? For example, a roller shutter integrated into the frame, an external blind, or possibly deciding not to have a roller shutter at all.

Does anyone have any ideas?

The roller shutter is on the south side. We therefore need it for shading.

How does the access panel work, is it very complicated?

Why not use external venetian blinds? We have planned them on the west side, where a fixed window element of 2.50m (8 feet 2 inches) is included.

On the south side, it looks really awkward during the day when roller shutters darken everything...

We also have 2-meter (6 ft 7 in) wide doors in the living area, which we can open fully.

Are you sure you won’t regret later if you install windows that cannot be opened?

We have three glass units on the west side:

Kitchen with 2m (6.6 ft) – fully openable with a mullion
Dining room with 2.50m (8.2 ft) – fixed panel with continuous glass
Living room with 2m (6.6 ft) – fully openable with a mullion

The dining and living rooms form one unit – I don’t need a third exit to the terrace and prefer a full glass front at the dining table.

We once had this in a rental property (large fixed window with a shutter), next to it the patio door. To be honest, we never considered that the inside of the shutters might need cleaning. I wouldn’t worry about it.

So... for us (external venetian blinds on the south and west sides – which also has the advantage that both sides can be cleaned from the outside): South side glass facade 4m x 2.16m (two-part) – fixed glazing, behind that partially 1.8m (5.9 feet) down to the floor. On the terrace (west side) 2x 2.76m x 2.16m (9.1 feet x 7.1 feet) – one sliding door, one fixed – on the TV side, a sliding door is not necessary.

Acquaintance: Similar window front facing southeast – fixed glazing – behind it drops vertically 3m (9.8 feet). External venetian blinds. The cleaning issue will be interesting.

Advantage of fixed glazing: no French balcony required, great view, with the 3m (9.8 feet) vertical drop slightly unusual...
