We are currently looking for a kitchen for our new build, which is scheduled to start in 2021. Nothing extravagant. Our first two visits to kitchen showrooms resulted in prices of at least 15,000 euros (around $16,000 USD), plus the side-by-side refrigerator that we plan to buy ourselves.
We are a bit surprised that for just a few pieces of furniture and three appliances (dishwasher, cooktop with fan, oven) we have to pay at least 15,000 euros. The consultants actually expected around 20,000 euros. The countertop is not even ceramic but rather granite.
Are there other options to purchase an affordable kitchen?
Please don’t get me wrong. We could afford such a kitchen. We just don’t see why we should spend 20,000 euros on a few furniture pieces and appliances.

We just don’t want to spend 20,000€ on a few pieces of furniture and electrical appliances.Well... I’m also quite critical when it comes to buying a kitchen, but it shouldn’t be seen so simplistically. A sofa set can cost 2,000€ or even 24,000€, and both are still just a sofa set...You just need to be clear about your requirements for the product, service, etc., or what you really need. Much of what you see here or read about is available because people want it. It is optional.

Not even ceramic. More like granite. So, not even a Mercedes, just an Audi.Go to IKEA and put together what you want, then look for the appliances you like online, and contact a suitable tradesperson to do the “final installation.” For example, we assembled our current IKEA kitchen ourselves (the individual cabinets), and our carpenter then came as agreed, set everything up professionally, and handed over a fully functional kitchen.
That worked well for him since he didn’t want to assemble the cabinets himself; for us, it was actually fun.
That way, you get a fixed price and a decent kitchen as a base.
Then visit one or two kitchen showrooms at most and have something put together according to your taste. It won’t be exactly comparable, but in the end, you should have an idea of what direction you want to go.
I’m still surprised that hardly any home builder nowadays uses a secondhand kitchen; there are plenty available and often really great pieces, modular kitchens, etc., from top manufacturers that you can potentially extend with other furniture parts with a bit of creativity.
German home builders in 2020 have money, so there is an industry that caters to that.
In other words... pay up and don’t complain, or look for alternatives that don’t meet the usual standards or don’t offer an all-inclusive, easy-service package.
And... children should still be reasonably content with kitchens without marble or natural stone countertops.

Buying IKEA in Poland. We will inquire with a few furniture manufacturers in Poland to find out the costs of the furniture. The electrical appliances are not a major cost factor. The expenses are around 3,000–3,500 € (3,300–3,850 USD).
I just don’t understand how a few cabinets/drawers (not solid wood) can cost 12,000–18,000 € (13,200–19,800 USD). Is it simply because these were kitchen studios with their overhead costs similar to general contractors with show homes versus regional smaller contractors?
We will also look at kitchens at Höffner.
@pagoni2020 We bought our sofa for 800 € (880 USD). It was custom ordered from a Polish manufacturer. Everything individually selected. 800 € (880 USD) including shipping, delivery, and assembly.

nordanney24 Oct 2020 23:15Kitchen furniture from Ikea. Really good quality for the price. Great kitchen for €4,000–5,000 (approximately $4,300–5,400). Then you add the appliances, and the total comes to around €15,000 (about $16,000). However, you get smart electrical appliances with many high-quality features. Electrical installations and the “cheap” countertops made of granite or similar materials are the main cost drivers.
Then just move to Poland. But you don’t want to live there, and if Poland is on both sides of you, that’s also not acceptable, right?
Ybias78 schrieb:Well, they are screwed together according to DIN standards, and your interior fittings with sliding mechanisms and soft-close features also involve “manufacturing” costs.
