We are currently looking for a kitchen for our new build, which is scheduled to start in 2021. Nothing extravagant. Our first two visits to kitchen showrooms resulted in prices of at least 15,000 euros (around $16,000 USD), plus the side-by-side refrigerator that we plan to buy ourselves.
We are a bit surprised that for just a few pieces of furniture and three appliances (dishwasher, cooktop with fan, oven) we have to pay at least 15,000 euros. The consultants actually expected around 20,000 euros. The countertop is not even ceramic but rather granite.
Are there other options to purchase an affordable kitchen?
Please don’t get me wrong. We could afford such a kitchen. We just don’t see why we should spend 20,000 euros on a few furniture pieces and appliances.

We got our kitchen from a small family-run business in the district. The kitchen, including a large 5m (16 feet) kitchen island, is from the manufacturer Liva and is definitely not bad (soft-close drawer runners, 27 drawers, many of them extra deep, Downair ventilation, etc.) including appliances for 18k.
It looks like quite a lot of cabinets have already been planned. An integrated range hood is definitely not cheap. However, unfortunately, it’s still hard to make much sense of your details. There are different manufacturers, various price ranges for the cabinet fronts, drawers or shelves, lighting, side panels... So many factors that influence the price.

....so not even Mercedes, but just Audi Side note: This comparison doesn’t really work ... Audi is significantly more premium than Mercedes (and similarly priced).Well, I was also shocked at first... but over time, the differences have become clearer to me. My dad’s attitude is: replace the kitchen every 10 years, then he doesn’t want to see it anymore. He paid $10,000 and ordered the appliances online and installed them himself... but you can tell it’s cheaper, especially by the adhesive seams.
Ours cost $22,000, also all plastic, to put it in your words... but we have an island, he doesn’t. The island has a nano coating, the sink is huge and made of ceramic, he has a regular Blanco. Also, none of our cabinets require crawling in from the back; everything is pull-out drawers. The waste drawer opens automatically, the dishwasher is raised, and so on. Above all, drawers are very expensive... that’s how you end up with such high prices.

LOLWell, the main cost drivers have already been mentioned.
Just an induction cooktop with an integrated extractor... that's definitely a premium feature, no matter who makes it.
Just a granite countertop... of course, there are more expensive materials than granite, but it still has a significant impact on the final price.
And also just two base cabinets on the left and only tall cabinets on the right... that doesn’t make the kitchen any cheaper either.
So, I see the $15,000 to $20,000 range as completely realistic for this setup. Which isn’t unreasonable if you expect quality.
