Hello everyone,

a quick question for those of you who have already completed building your house. Was there a moment when you thought, "Oh no, what did we actually choose here? This doesn’t look at all like we imagined it would?"

We are currently having some doubts about the tiles in the hallway. Maybe that will change after the painter has finished and the furniture, especially the staircase, is in place.

How was it for you?

Best regards
Herr Stein

Ah, I see! But a room also needs furniture, and no matter how great the window is, it won’t help if you end up blocking it, right?
The discussion was about anthracite-colored or white windows...

Houses with living room depths over 5 meters (16 feet) are still being built, and if there is enough space both to place and rearrange furniture, this common argument (which is often misused) doesn’t hold true. Personally, I would prefer installing a floor-to-ceiling window rather than one with a window sill. The former offers a clear view of the garden and visually expands the interior without barriers, even if a sofa is placed about 20cm (8 inches) in front of it.

Yes, I agree with you now – maybe it would have been better for us too. We just thought the window sill looked so nice. Although I have to say, the outside view is definitely better than looking at a chair back. Maybe one day we’ll tear everything down and open it all up.

Hmm... I have to admit that everything inside looks quite dark from the outside through the window. That means: from the garden or terrace, I can’t see what’s inside at all.
And if the sofa had a striking pattern or color, I’d just put a flower pot in front of it.

I know I’m confessing to not following the usual rule... how this relates to the topic: the construction company installed this window instead of a half-height window at no extra cost.
Here are two photos... because the ants on the lounge chair are bothering me right now.

White house facade with dark glass sliding door; stone slab pathway on gravel, green plants to the right.

Living room with black leather armchair in front of glass sliding door to green garden; TV on sideboard.

That is quite normal nowadays since glass panes are usually coated in some way.

Ours are not coated – double glazed. That's it.
