Hello everyone,
a quick question for those of you who have already completed building your house. Was there a moment when you thought, "Oh no, what did we actually choose here? This doesn’t look at all like we imagined it would?"
We are currently having some doubts about the tiles in the hallway. Maybe that will change after the painter has finished and the furniture, especially the staircase, is in place.
How was it for you?
Best regards
Herr Stein

That kind of thing always looks great in pictures, but the room you need for it is huge.Hmm, I see it differently. But that’s just how tastes are, fortunately.

We have the windows made of plastic, anthracite-colored (matte finish), and I am very impressed.May I ask what the dimensions of the landing stair window are? I always find it hard to estimate.

I haven’t built yet, or rather we are currently in the middle of it, but I’m also worried that I might have made some mistakes (for example, the window installer was quite surprised by my opinion of “I also want anthracite-colored windows on the inside!”… that makes me uncertain).
I’ll join in here. Many years ago, I had a carpenter who installed a 10cm (4 inch) crossbeam right in front of the glass facade. When I asked about it, he said, “That’s how it is at my house too.” In the evening, the other tradespeople and I solved the problem and moved the entire dormer down. Since then, there’s been an unobstructed view of the river. Color can definitely be nice—it really depends on the overall design or impression. Visit the window installer at home, then we’ll talk...P

So far, we have only made minor changes during the construction phase.
This is partly because we planned very thoroughly for over a year, and we are doing the building with separate contracts.
You have to reach the point where you say to yourself, “This is right now.”
I would only reconsider things during construction if they clearly don’t match the original vision.
Achieving 100% is the goal but practically impossible. There is a thread in this forum where someone is trying. I’m curious to see how it turns out. I’m really interested in that thread. Where can I find it?
I see it the same way as you. With the first house, I spent most of the time in the excavation, on the roof, or somewhere else. Interior design was done somehow (back then there was no internet... oh dear...). At the moment, we are planning again and will probably start soon, but with a different approach and focus than last time. It is by no means easier, but we take time for details, colors, and also simplification, because you don’t need every little thing. Back then, it was expensive, colorful, but ultimately lacked a consistent style or direction. If something ends up going wrong this time, it will be taken out and that’s that. But with extensive planning, this can possibly be avoided. I think you need to recognize your own weaknesses in the vision and then find someone who has designed beautiful things and has an eye for it.

I thought so too – which is why the reaction surprised and confused me even more.
Apparently, it’s not chosen that often overall. We are also building soon, and as of now the windows will be gray or anthracite. Look at lots of pictures online or visit a home center where you can see them in person. If you still like the color after that, then choose it, and you’ll always enjoy it. I truly believe that. I know the usual clever complaints about other people’s taste. Visit those exact homes yourself and then decide if you want to follow their style. That is helpful.
