Hello,
could you please upload the pictures in a larger size? By the way, the terrace direction is only partly related to the ridge orientation.
Best regards
Michael

It depends on how the others position their houses. Exactly.

Actually, what the planner drew in number 27 makes sense, especially if the neighbors do the same. The suggestions show real expertise, and what I like even more is the apparent openness—no rigid ideas about having a uniform ridge orientation.

Where we currently live, we have a purely east-facing terrace that is completely shaded from around 3:30 p.m. even now in June. We never want that again! The transitional seasons have been much longer on average in recent years than the periods when the sun is really intense. Of course, right now it is quite comfortable. But in my opinion, creating artificial shade might not be easy, but it is easier than creating artificial sun. Therefore, we will place our terrace on the west side in the new build. And if it ever gets too warm there, we can move in front of the garage (i.e., onto the driveway), which is located north of the house and is accordingly in the shade.

a purely east-facing terrace, which is already completely shaded from around 3:30 PM (June). The sun rises in the east, so it obviously can’t stay there until sunset. Around 2:30 PM (standard time) is still a reasonable time.

andreashm9 Jun 2018 13:32That may be true, but it simply gets too cool there for us after work or in the evening! Except for the few really hot summer days.

Apart from the few truly super summer days. But then it is mostly residual heat from the surrounding air and radiant heat from the house walls, etc.; basically, an east-facing terrace will always serve as a breakfast terrace and is therefore not suitable to be the only terrace.
