Hello,

could you please upload the pictures in a larger size? By the way, the terrace direction is only partly related to the ridge orientation.

Best regards

And, you also need to consider the possible building envelope within the plot, to be more precise. If I understood 27 correctly, then I also see a nice west to northwest terrace location.

Garage centrally on the south side, terrace on the south, west, and north sides with a hedge along the driveway.
Behind the garage are vegetable beds with compost; the rear eastern third of the house includes the entrance and utility areas – this can also be quite charming [emoji4]

Edit: The western sun will probably be blocked by the neighboring house.

Edit2: Staircase on the north side, opposite the entrance

The best side remains east. In the morning there is nice sunshine, and in the afternoon/evening the garden still gets sun while the terrace stays shaded. Very convenient not having to gather everything all the time. We used to have a south-facing balcony, and even with a sunshade, it was unbearable. It just got too hot.

In the apartment, we have a huge balcony on the south side, and I find it really unbearable in the summer, especially around midday.

It’s uncertain. I think those are more likely position markers than actual building envelopes, as what we see drawn there are roof surfaces.

Thank you for the tips.
We have that now, which is great at these temperatures, but not so much during the transition period. It’s often too cold to sit outside then.
And this year is really an exception; last year it was just cold and rainy.

I hadn’t even considered an east-facing orientation again, but I’ll include that in my considerations now.

Structurally, almost any placement is possible, with a 3m (10 feet) distance to the property boundary, except for garages/carports.
We can easily comply with the floor area ratio as well.
According to the development plan, the house must have 1.5 stories with a maximum height of 9m (30 feet) and eaves at 4m (13 feet).

But first of all, thanks—our preferred south or west orientation might not be as optimal after all.

Rudi Carrell’s wish for a “real summer” may not come true every year, but when it does, people generally prefer to grill rather than be grilled.

However, it seems that many still strongly associate south with “the direction of the sun.” Ex Oriente Lux (light comes from the east) applies all year round, and people working daytime shifts usually get the most enjoyment from the western sun on weekdays.

The common misconception that just because the sun doesn’t come from the north, it also doesn’t go to the north is widespread.

Personally, I prefer my terrace to be closer to “friendly neighbor” rather than “difficult neighbor,” so compass directions are only part of the equation.

Trees also play an important role, providing both shade from light and protection from wind.

Therefore, my advice regarding house placement is to avoid a narrow focus on cardinal directions alone.
