Hello everyone,

I am planning to assemble a complete Ikea Metod kitchen soon. Since this is my first time and I want to work as efficiently as possible, I am interested in knowing: What tools do I actually need to complete the entire kitchen installation from start to finish without any issues? I don’t just mean basic tools like screwdrivers, but also any special tools and aids that are important for fitting the cabinets, countertop, doors, and connections. Who has experience with the Metod system or can provide me with a comprehensive list of necessary tools and their usefulness? Thanks in advance!

Technically, the complete tool list for assembling the entire Ikea Metod kitchen is as follows:

- Cordless drill/driver with adjustable torque settings
- Phillips screwdriver bits (PH2 and PH3)
- Torx bits (usually T20 recommended)
- Drill (possibly with hammer function for stone or concrete walls)
- Spirit level (60cm (24 inches) or longer, optionally laser level for precise use)
- Measuring tape (at least 5 meters (16 feet))
- Utility knife
- Pencil for precise markings
- Rubber mallet
- Ratchet with appropriate sockets
- Jigsaw with fine blade (for cutting the countertop)
- Silicone gun (for sealing between countertop and wall)

The choice between metal or wood drill bits depends on the substrates and components. Screws should always follow Ikea’s recommendations and assembly instructions. This list fully covers all steps to ensure safe and correct assembly.

If you don’t already have a cordless drill: buy a good one with interchangeable bits and a depth stop. This makes the work much easier.

Simple tools like screwdrivers are often not enough for the scope of the project.

Don’t forget a spirit level, it’s essential for perfectly straight fronts.

Thank you very much for the detailed list, Dopoki. It matches exactly what I had in mind. Especially the mention of the caulking gun was a great tip; I hadn’t thought of that. Thanks also to everyone else for the advice!

One quick question to the group: Are there any differences in the recommended tools when installing a small, compact kitchen compared to a large kitchen with multiple units? Or can the same list cover both cases without any problems?

The list of tools remains the same regardless of kitchen size. For larger kitchens, having a second spirit level can be helpful. Otherwise, the equipment is sufficient.

No, the same tools should be sufficient for both cases. For larger kitchens, more practice or time might be the only additional "tool" needed.
