Hello everyone, I’m planning to assemble my new IKEA Platsa wardrobe in the next few days and am organizing my tools accordingly. To avoid unnecessary delays or problems during assembly, I’d like to know specifically: Which screwdrivers are needed for assembling the IKEA Platsa?

I have briefly looked through the instructions, but they only generally mention screwdrivers and possibly a hex key (Allen wrench). It would be helpful to know whether it’s best to have several different bit types on hand, or if usually just a Phillips screwdriver or a specific type is used.

Are there any special features of the screws – for example, particular sizes or uncommon types – that I should definitely have ready before starting the assembly?

I’m looking forward to your tips and experiences so I can choose my tools precisely and start the build smoothly.

I can relate well because I also assembled my PLATSA a few weeks ago and was initially unsure if my tools were sufficient. Generally, IKEA furniture mostly requires Phillips head screws.

However, with PLATSA there are also some fasteners that use an Allen key – which is usually included in the package.

What I learned is that having a good medium-sized Phillips screwdriver or a cordless drill with the right bits is very helpful. Some screws are quite small and some are tightened a bit more firmly, so a cordless drill can really save time and effort.

You should also make sure the screwdrivers aren’t too worn out, otherwise you might easily strip the screws.

I also got a small flathead screwdriver just in case something gets stuck.

Patience is important too, especially if you’re working alone – I hope this helps!

Use a Philips PH2 for most screws and the small Allen wrench for the supplied connectors. You really don’t need anything else.

I would like to question this statement based on my own experience. Sure, in most cases a PH2 will fit well, but depending on the manufacturing tolerances of screws and tools, there can be slight variations.

Has anyone noticed whether IKEA sometimes uses screws with PH1, or can someone confirm that only PH2 screws are used?

And regarding the Allen key: what exact size is it? This can vary depending on the furniture piece, and without the correct size, the supplied key isn’t very useful if you want to use spare parts or make upgrades.

A more detailed breakdown of screw sizes would definitely be helpful for planning.

As an addition: IKEA PLATSA typically uses standard Phillips head screws, usually PH2. I assembled the cabinet myself and hardly had any screws that were different.

The included Allen key is usually 4 mm (0.16 inches). It is important that it fits tightly and is not worn, as otherwise the screws can be damaged.

If you use a cordless drill, I strongly recommend reducing the torque to prevent over-tightening the screws – the particleboard panels of the cabinet are sensitive.

It’s also smart to have a small flathead screwdriver on hand in case a screw is difficult to loosen.

My tip: For emergencies, buy a screwdriver set with different sizes so you’re flexible and prepared for any situation.

Hey, I really like the PLATSA assembly! It’s definitely worth having the right screwdriver on hand. For me, these worked well:
- Phillips PH2 screwdriver (the most important!)
- small Allen key (usually included, but having your own is very convenient)

I did everything with a cordless drill, which saves a lot of time and effort! Just be careful with the power, so you don’t accidentally break something. Good luck, it will surely go great!
