Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to enhance the appearance of my IKEA Platsa wardrobe and am looking for suitable panels for cladding. I am interested in both materials and manufacturing techniques that are compatible with the modular dimensions of Platsa and ensure a durable, high-quality finish. It is also important that the panels are easy to install without affecting the basic structure of Platsa.

What types of panels, such as MDF, HPL, solid wood, or other materials, have you used or would you recommend? Are there any specific finishes or manufacturers that have proven to be reliable? I look forward to your details and experiences.

To complement the previous posts, here is a brief overview of what you should consider when cladding an IKEA Platsa with panels:

1. Material Selection
- MDF laminated: affordable, easy to work with, wide range of colors
- HPL (high-pressure laminate): very durable, ideal for heavily used surfaces
- Solid wood: attractive but expensive and sensitive to moisture

2. Surface Treatment
- Lamination: durable, nearly scratch-resistant, and easy to maintain
- Paint finish: elegant, but any painting flaws will be visible
- Decorative foil: cost-effective alternative, but often less durable

3. Installation Tips
- Check the compatibility of panel thicknesses with the door hinges
- Install spacers to prevent moisture damage
- Seal edges properly, e.g., with edge banding

4. Cutting
- Accurate measurements are crucial; preferably have cuts made by a professional supplier
- Don’t forget edge treatment to avoid fraying

If you’ve decided on a material or surface type, I’d be happy to provide a step-by-step guide for attaching the panels.

Foiled MDF is the most practical solution for most applications. It is easy to cut, durable, and looks good. Pay attention to the thickness during installation.

An important detail is the attachment: It is recommended to mount the cladding using spacers or concealed screws.

That’s exactly what I wanted to clarify. Installing with spacers also provides the advantage of air circulation behind the panels, which helps prevent moisture damage. However, this method requires a certain level of precision in alignment so that doors and hinges are not obstructed.

Additionally, you should pre-drill the holes, especially with MDF, to avoid cracking. If you plan to paint the panels yourself, I recommend appropriate primers and intermediate sanding, otherwise you might struggle with uneven surfaces.

Perhaps you could also describe your planned indoor humidity and the intended use of the Platsa units? This greatly affects the choice of materials and surface treatment.
