Hello everyone, I recently started assembling the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe and encountered some common issues. I’m interested in knowing: What mistakes happen most frequently during the IKEA Brimnes assembly? I’m especially referring to difficulties that aren’t immediately obvious, such as incorrect drill holes, improperly mounted hinges, or challenges when installing the drawer slides. Maybe you have experience or tips on what to watch out for to avoid errors. Specific advice on the individual assembly steps would be very helpful. Thanks in advance!

Good morning! I have helped several people assemble the BRIMNES wardrobe, and certain mistakes tend to occur frequently. First of all: the assembly seems straightforward, but especially with the drawers and hinges, things often go wrong. Here are some common mistakes and tips:

- Incorrect drawer alignment: The side panels of the drawers must be perfectly parallel, and the drawer slides need to be installed precisely; otherwise, they will stick or hang unevenly.

- Over-tightening the hinges: This causes the doors to not close properly or to warp. It’s better to screw them in loosely at first and then adjust as needed.

- Confusing similar panels: Some wooden panels look alike, so it’s worth double-checking the IKEA diagram carefully before attaching anything.

- Improper alignment of the back panel: This makes the wardrobe unstable. It’s best to check all angles again after fastening.

Conclusion: Patience and a systematic approach pay off here. Careful reading of the instructions and precise work will prevent 80% of the common errors.

Many people confuse the left and right drawer slides with the BRIMNES drawers. This later causes problems when opening them. So be sure to pay close attention to the labels.

Count the enclosed screws carefully. I once was missing screws because they were not properly checked. Otherwise, stop during assembly and investigate.

That’s a good point. I was actually a bit impatient when fitting the drawer slides, and in the end, they did stick a little. Is there a trick for properly adjusting the hinges if the doors don’t close perfectly? I was worried I might have done something wrong by tightening them too much.

Glad to help! Regarding the hinges on the BRIMNES:

- Introduction: The hinges are adjustable and allow fine-tuning to ensure the doors close properly.

- How to proceed:
- First, do not tighten the screws too firmly.
- Use the small adjustment screws on the hinge plate for lateral alignment.
- Height adjustment is usually done with additional screws attached to the hinge.
- Pay attention to the angle brackets or spacers if recommended during assembly.

- Common mistakes:
- Tightening the hinges fully too early.
- Incorrect height adjustment can cause the doors to stick or not close flush.

Summary: Adjust gradually and test with small turns rather than tightening everything with force. This prevents unsightly gaps and avoids future damage.
