Hello everyone, I am currently planning to build a special shoe cabinet and am considering the Ikea Pax series. My question is: which Ikea Pax models are particularly suitable as shoe cabinets? I am especially interested in versions that allow good ventilation, provide enough height for boots, and ideally come with well-designed shelves or shoe racks. I am aware that Pax was originally designed more as a wardrobe, but I believe that with the right modules and accessories, it can be turned into a truly functional and space-saving shoe cabinet. I look forward to your experiences, tips, and maybe some alternative ideas within the Pax system!

At the bottom, I have drawers for accessories (shoelaces, care products), in the middle inclined shelves, and at the top flat shelves, so all shoes are visible and easily accessible.Sounds really smart! I’m starting to see that the trick is the interior fittings. Just placing a basic wardrobe frame and the shoes end up like hidden treasures.
Open and practical – maybe add a bit of fresh paint, some magic, and the typical clothes wardrobe turns into a real sneaker shrine! I also prefer a combination of open and closed sections to avoid it feeling too drafty.
I have to say, in practice the 50x201 cm (20x79 inches) model really makes sense. Thanks for sharing!
Personally, I think the 50x201 cm (20x79 inches) version with interior shelves is the best option. Why? Because it gives you the flexibility to adjust individual shelves according to the height of your shoes. For sneakers, one shelf is enough, while for boots, you can create a larger compartment.
Additionally, I would recommend avoiding a Pax unit with full-height doors and instead combine doors with grid-style panels or open compartments. This allows fresh air to circulate better.
My tip: use Ikea drawer inserts to neatly store accessories or smaller shoes. The investment is definitely worth it! Good luck with your renovation – a shoe cabinet made from Pax is definitely doable and looks great!
