Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to get an IKEA PAX wardrobe and am focusing on the different options for interior organization. Since the PAX systems are extremely flexible and allow a combination of drawers, hanging rails, and shelves, I am interested in hearing which interior layouts have proven especially worthwhile based on your experience.

I am particularly interested in options that offer plenty of storage space for clothes while also providing good visibility—such as clever solutions for shoes, accessories, and garments of varying lengths.

Do you have any tips on components that are essential or combinations that have worked well in practice? What are your experiences with drawers versus shelves, or which interior configurations make the best use of the available space in the wardrobe?

I would really appreciate detailed and well-founded feedback, especially based on personal experience. Thanks in advance!

I would definitely recommend drawers with full extension slides. They are very convenient and provide quick access.

Adjustable shelves are also worthwhile to maintain flexibility. It’s best to store shoes in boxes at the bottom and use a clothes rail for longer garments.

That is usually more than sufficient.

Your question about the best internal layout for the IKEA PAX system is complex because it depends heavily on individual habits and types of clothing; however, I can provide a basic guideline.

1. Drawers: I recommend at least 2-3 wide drawers (e.g., 100cm (40 inches) wide), ideally with insert boxes for smaller items like underwear or socks. Avoid too many narrow drawers if possible, as they often prove impractical.

2. Hanging rods at different heights: One high rod for coats and dresses, and a lower one for shirts and blouses. This way, you make efficient use of the space.

3. Shelves: Adjustable shelves to create open storage for shoes, bags, or favorite sweaters.

4. Accessories: IKEA offers special organizers for ties, belts, and jewelry – these are very practical and should be included in the plan.

It is important to measure carefully before purchasing and then plan the layout so that no small unused gaps remain.

How much storage space have you planned overall? Or how many PAX unit sizes? This way, I could recommend the most suitable elements more specifically.

This is the key point, as many people simply buy the individual components blindly and then wonder about issues with usability.

In my opinion, the PAX systems are often overrated – too much flexibility tempts many to choose endless options without clearly defining their own needs.

One should keep in mind: more individual parts do not necessarily mean a better layout.

Better: Make conscious decisions about what you actually need and, above all, be realistic about how much daily use you really want.

A small tip: For shoes, the shallow drawers with glass fronts are great. This way, you can easily see your shoes without having to take them out.
