Hello everyone,

I am planning to redesign my Ikea PAX wardrobe and am looking for a comprehensive overview of which doors are currently available for the PAX system in various styles. I am particularly interested in the differences in materials, surface textures, and visual styles—such as matte, high gloss, mirrored, wood effect, or frame-front doors—and whether there are doors with special features like soft-close or unique handles.

Does anyone have experience with the different options and could possibly explain the advantages of certain designs over others? Thanks in advance for your detailed advice!

Hey Arnoldje, great that you brought up this topic! 😃 The PAX doors really offer a wide range that will definitely impress you!

Here’s an overview of the most popular designs:
- Simple, smooth doors in matte or high gloss white – very clean and timeless!
- Mirror doors, which make the room appear much larger, especially great for smaller bedrooms!
- Framed fronts made of lacquered MDF, giving the wardrobe a classic and elegant style
- Doors with wood decor, e.g. oak or birch – for a natural feel and cozy atmosphere
- Soft-close hinges are standard on most modern doors, perfect for gentle closing without noise!

The smooth high gloss doors, in particular, give the room a very stylish look, but they require more maintenance due to fingerprints. The wood decor versions are more forgiving in that respect.

Have fun planning, and if you need more details, just ask!

Hello Arnoldje,

I’d like to provide a more detailed explanation, as the PAX system is indeed very versatile, especially when it comes to doors, which offer a lot of room for customization.

In recent years, Ikea has significantly expanded its range and currently offers the following types of doors:

- Sliding and bypass doors: Ideal for limited spaces or if you want to access the wardrobe frequently without needing much space to open the doors.

- Hinged doors: Classic style with various fronts ranging from smooth to textured.

- Mirror doors: Fully or partially mirrored, perfect for smaller rooms, but keep in mind the increased maintenance and heavier weight.

Regarding materials, options range from painted MDF to melamine-coated particleboard and veneered solid wood variations. Noteworthy options include:

- The VOXTORP fronts: High-gloss, very modern, but somewhat more prone to scratches and fingerprints.

- The HAMMARP fronts: Frame fronts in a country cottage style, with slightly raised edges.

- The BERGSBO series: Matte painted fronts that offer a calm and more durable surface.

Functionally, many doors feature soft-close hinges, ensuring quiet and gentle closing. Handles can either be mounted on the outside or integrated into the doors, which adds another design variation.

Finally, an important tip: dimensions and mounting systems vary depending on the door model—so make sure to check the exact fit and compatibility before ordering.

If you have a specific design style in mind or questions about assembly and maintenance, feel free to ask!

This warning is very relevant. I would like to add that despite the standardized dimensions of the PAX system, different door models have various hanging mechanisms, which can differ in hinges or sliding rails.

The most common designs are:
- VOXTORP: High-gloss lacquer, these doors are especially smooth and reflective but have special hinges that cannot be combined with older models.
- BERGSBO: Matte lacquer finish, with classic hanging hardware, this model is somewhat more resistant to scratches.
- SÅNGVIKEN: Frame-front design, with recessed grip grooves instead of handles, ergonomic and timeless.

Additionally, you can choose between hinged and sliding doors, with sliding doors requiring different installation due to their heavier weight.

My tip: Measure your system carefully, note the exact dimensions, and check the installation instructions in the Ikea catalog or warehouse. This helps prevent costly order mistakes with PAX doors.

Very good and precise question, Arnoldje! Regarding materials and surfaces:

- Matte painted doors are especially resistant to fingerprints and have a subdued, high-quality appearance.
- High gloss fronts visually suit modern or minimalist interiors but require regular cleaning.
- Mirror doors are not only decorative but also practical for everyday use, such as quick outfit checks.
- Doors with wood decor are usually melamine-coated and less sensitive than real wood fronts, which are rarely offered by Ikea.

Soft-close is now standard on almost all doors within PAX. Note that handle styles vary: some doors have integrated grip rails, while others need handles attached separately.

Once you have chosen a style, also check the care instructions – some surfaces are more sensitive than others. If you need detailed help with selecting combinations, I’m happy to provide additional tips.
