Hello everyone, I am currently considering getting an IKEA PAX wardrobe for my attic. However, since the ceiling slope there is quite pronounced and the room height varies, I am wondering: Which IKEA PAX models or carcass options are particularly suitable for attics with sloped ceilings?

I am looking for recommendations regarding the best dimensions, possible modular adjustments, or tips on how to best adapt PAX to sloped ceilings without losing too much storage space. It would also be helpful to know if certain fronts or interior fittings are better suited to make the most of the limited space.

Thank you in advance for your opinions and experiences!

In general, the lower PAX units with a height of 201 cm (79 inches) are better suited for attic rooms because they can be more easily aligned with sloped walls.

- The 236 cm (93 inches) versions are often too tall for sloped ceilings.
- There are also corner units that work well for tricky angles.
- PAX can be assembled modularly and customized with shelves or drawers.

The most important aspect is accurate on-site measuring and, if necessary, the use of additional elements or side panels to visually close the slopes and maximize storage space.

I think the modular concept of PAX is especially useful for an attic conversion project! 😉

If you don’t choose the taller models, you can work with smaller units and customize them yourself, for example, finishing the wardrobes flush with the ceiling or giving them a slight slope.

Sliding doors are also a great option when space is limited in an attic — no worries about door clearance! Plus, for the interior, drawers or adjustable inserts work really well to create smart storage even in sloped corners.

For attics, I would recommend PAX units with a depth of 50cm (20 inches). Shallower than the standard 60cm (24 inches), they fit better under sloped ceilings.

Sliding doors also save space in small rooms.

It’s best to measure carefully on site.

I had a PAX wardrobe in my attic with a width of 100cm (39 inches) and a height of 201cm (79 inches). It fit perfectly since my sloping ceiling starts at about 210cm (83 inches).

Also: White doors look visually lighter, which helps in small attic rooms.

For a structured assessment:

IKEA offers PAX carcasses in three heights: 201 cm, 236 cm, and 236 cm with an integrated plinth. For attics, the 201 cm (79 inches) carcass is recommended due to its lower overall dimensions.

Additionally, depth and width should be considered. In attic spaces, a shallower depth is often more practical, so the 35 cm (14 inches) or 50 cm (20 inches) depth options are useful.

Installation is flexible; however, reinforcing the back panel with suitable side panels is often necessary when the pitch of the roof affects one side. It is also possible to install the doors only up to a certain height, for example as half-height fronts.

In conclusion: planning based on the exact room dimensions is essential because every roof slope is unique.
