Hello everyone,
I am currently planning to securely attach my Ikea Besta cabinets to the wall, as I am particularly interested in stability and durability. I have come across various fastening methods, ranging from the supplied wall brackets to additional angle brackets, anchors, and screws, as well as special furniture brackets. I am especially interested in which of these methods, based on your experience, work best – considering load-bearing capacity, ease of installation, and how to avoid damage to both the wall and the furniture.
Are there specific anchors or screws that fit especially well? How does the wall material (drywall, concrete, wood) affect this? And what about the pull-out strength, for example, when heavy TVs or speakers are placed on the Besta units?
I would really appreciate a detailed discussion so I can choose the best method. Thanks in advance!

Hello sionfa,
Your question about the best way to fasten Ikea BESTA cabinets is very good and important. I will go through it step by step, as there is no one perfect solution; it strongly depends on the specific conditions.
- Firstly, regarding the furniture itself: Ikea BESTA is usually made from medium-density fiberboard (MDF) or a similar engineered wood product, designed to be gentle on floors but not extremely solid. The original wall brackets (usually small metal angles with screws) are suitable for standard use, but for heavier loads, I would recommend adding extra brackets or heavy-duty fasteners from the start.
- Wall material: For concrete walls, large expansion anchors (e.g., Fischer SX, Mungo) with matching screws are recommended. These ensure a secure hold that won’t fail under higher loads. For drywall, it is more complex: you should definitely use special drywall anchors (toggle anchors or cavity anchors) that spread behind the drywall panel to safely transfer the load.
- Alternative fasteners: A steel furniture bracket that is large enough (about 30 x 30 mm (1.2 x 1.2 inches) base area) distributes forces better. If you plan to place heavy boxes on the BESTA, you should rather use these more robust solutions.
- Screw size: For the wall, I consider screws at least 5 x 50 mm (0.2 x 2 inches) to be practical, and for the cabinet itself, use the original connecting screws or a maximum of 4 x 40 mm (0.16 x 1.6 inches), so as not to weaken the material too much.
- Tensile and shear forces: Especially with higher loads, it is helpful to fix the cabinet to the wall at multiple points perpendicular to the wall to avoid tensile forces as much as possible.
In conclusion: Could you describe more precisely what type of wall you have and exactly what you want to place on the cabinet? Then I can give you more specific advice.

Hi everyone!
Since I already have several BESTA units securely mounted to the wall, I can say that the original mounting hardware is generally suitable for light to moderate loads. However, if you think about how quickly you end up placing items on them (PS4, speakers, decorations), a bit of extra support doesn’t hurt.
I used metal brackets commonly sold as “corner braces” in hardware stores. They are very simple but make a big difference. And hey, if the screws are a bit thicker and longer than the IKEA standard ones, you immediately feel much safer 😄
Oh, and don’t forget – depending on whether you have drywall (plasterboard) or a solid wall, you’ll need the right anchors; otherwise, you might end up causing more damage than holding the unit securely!
So, it’s better to overengineer a little bit, so you won’t have to be nervous when placing things on it later.

Could you please describe more precisely what type of wall you have and exactly what you want to place on the cabinet?I also thought that was a very important question. I had a very similar challenge with my wall because I wanted to put a rather heavy TV and some heavy speakers on the Besta shelf. Honestly, that made me quite nervous – I didn’t want anything to fall over or the wall mounting to fail.
In the end, I chose special heavy-duty anchors and, by the way, had a second mounting point installed as well (basically double security). That really gave me peace of mind.
Sometimes a little extra effort helps, especially when it comes to safety, even if it initially seems unnecessarily expensive.

- Use only mounting hardware that is certified for your wall type. Key points: load capacity and type of anchor.
- If heavier items are placed on the furniture, it is advisable to use multiple fastening points in combination.
The original parts included by Ikea are fine for simple uses but not suitable for heavier loads. Personally, I prefer to use brackets with larger screws together with heavy-duty anchors, especially for concrete or solid walls.
A small tip: Check the exact wall composition beforehand, as this makes a big difference in installation success and safety.
