Hello everyone, I recently assembled several Ikea Metod drawers and noticed that some of them squeak noticeably when opening or closing. I’m interested in which assembly steps, based on your experience, are particularly important to avoid this squeaking.

I mean both the correct installation of the drawer slides on the drawer and cabinet, as well as adjustments or possible additional measures that could help reduce friction or unwanted noise.

Could you please point out common mistakes or optimizations to consider during assembly? For example, specific positioning, the use of lubricants, or tips that are especially relevant for Ikea Metod?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Make sure to align the drawer slides properly. If the slides are not parallel and straight, friction will occur, causing squeaking.

It is also worth keeping an eye on the plastic rollers – they should move smoothly and be cleaned regularly. A drop of silicone spray on the slides can also help.

To avoid squeaking Ikea Metod drawers, here is a structured suggestion based on my experience and common mistakes:

- First, carefully check all assembly materials for any damage. Damaged rails or rollers quickly cause noise.
- Precisely align the rails on the cabinet: they must be completely straight and parallel to each other. Use a spirit level and measure multiple times.
- Drawer fronts and side panels must not bind. Over-tightening screws can cause deformation.
- Movable plastic parts like wheels and guide rails should operate smoothly. If necessary, treat them with a special plastic spray lubricant—never use WD-40 due to solvents.
- Before inserting the drawer, pull it out and push it in completely once to check for any rubbing spots or unusual movement.

The errors I see repeatedly are uneven tightening and incorrect positioning of the rails, which cause squeaking noises.

Summary: Precise alignment, careful assembly, and occasional lubrication reliably prevent squeaking drawers.

I agree with this and would like to add that the adjustment of the drawer stops is often underestimated. If these are set incorrectly, the drawers can squeak or even jam due to excessive pressure when closing.

This is a very important point that I fully support. WD-40 can damage plastics and is therefore unsuitable. Silicone spray or a lubricant designed specifically for plastics is best.

Finally, I also recommend ensuring that the drawer load is not permanently too high, as overloading stresses the mechanism and can promote squeaking over time.
