Hello everyone,

I recently assembled an IKEA Metod kitchen and noticed that some parts were either missing or damaged. Specifically, I’m missing screws and a small connector fitting, and one of the cabinet doors is slightly warped.

My question is: what do you recommend if you find missing or broken parts? Does IKEA offer a quick way to get replacement parts? Is it better to ask directly in the store, or does the online customer service work well?

Also, what can be done if the part in question is no longer available?

I would appreciate your experiences and advice, as I want to avoid having to take the entire kitchen apart again or postpone the project if possible.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, you can often order replacement parts directly from IKEA’s website, and they usually deliver within a few days.

Visiting the store is usually faster, but online customer service is more convenient if you don’t want to go in person.

In that case, your best options are to look for replacement parts at a hardware store or try to repair it if possible. Unfortunately, IKEA doesn’t always have all parts in stock.

I can add a few points to Lararon’s question based on my own experience with defective or missing Metod components.

First of all, I recommend the following approach:

- When you receive and unpack the parts, carefully check all components against the assembly instructions right away. Missing screws, dowels, or small fittings often only become noticeable when you sort everything thoroughly.

- If something is actually missing or damaged, have the exact item number and description ready. This makes communication with IKEA much easier.

- You can order replacement parts from IKEA through their online spare parts service. Most small parts, screws, and sometimes even fronts are available there.

- If the online option doesn’t work, a personal visit to the nearest IKEA store can be helpful since some parts are kept in stock. It’s best to call ahead and check availability.

- For warped or damaged doors, Metod sometimes offers options to exchange the doors for replacement parts or to adjust them using special adjustment mechanisms.

- If the part is really not available, you can try flexible solutions from hardware stores or third-party suppliers, such as screws of comparable quality.

A small tip at the end: document missing or damaged parts with photos and note down the order numbers for reordering.

This way, you can handle the process in a more organized way and make sure nothing gets overlooked.

I completely understand that feeling. I had a similar experience some time ago with an IKEA Metod kitchen – the frustration when you’re excited to assemble it and then suddenly something is missing.

My advice: stay calm and take it step by step. For me, customer service was eventually very helpful, even though it took a little while.

I also found success by seeking advice here in the forum or from neighbors and IKEA experts to improvise replacement parts myself if the wait time was too long.

That’s very important advice, which I only started doing later. This way, you’re well prepared when calling customer service or visiting the store, and you can avoid misunderstandings.

Don’t hesitate to ask IKEA for goodwill gestures. They usually respond understandingly in such situations and try to find a solution.
