Hello everyone,

I recently installed a kitchen with Ikea Metod cabinets including doors. I noticed that the doors warped slightly after a short time and sometimes make loud banging or scraping noises when closing. My question to the experienced DIYers here: How can I attach Ikea Metod doors so that they close quietly and, above all, remain stable and durable in the long term?

I am looking for a method or tips to both minimize noise and improve the durability of the door fittings. Are there special mounting materials, hinge adjustments, or other tricks that work particularly well with Metod doors?

I look forward to your experiences and advice!

I would like to add that the material of the screws affects their durability.

Sometimes it makes sense to use high-quality stainless steel screws instead of the supplied ones, as they do not rust and maintain their strength for a long time.

Soft-close hinges are generally more durable because they reduce impact noise and protect the door.

That does sound convincing. So if I switch to soft-close hinges, the doors will likely experience less wear from impacts in the long run.

Does anyone know if the dampers wear out over time or need readjustment? I want to avoid the damping losing effectiveness completely after a few years, requiring replacement.

Hello everyone,

I understand how frustrating it can be when Ikea Metod doors don’t stay quiet and stable for long. I often felt that the hinges became stiff after a few months or the adjustment loosened.

My tip: I started checking the hinges every 6 months and readjusting them if needed, as well as applying some silicone spray to the moving parts. This reduces friction and, together with the dampers, helps keep the closing quiet for a long time and protects the mechanism.

An important aspect is the precise positioning of the hinges within the drilled holes. For Ikea Metod, the mounting holes are predefined, but it is still essential to check whether the door aligns flush and even with the cabinet frame.

Regarding soft-close hinges: quality and brand matter significantly. Good soft-close hinges are suitable for frequent use and have a long lifespan. Cheap models may deteriorate or show defects over time.

Recommendation: it is better to invest in high-quality hinges and inspect them regularly; this way, the doors will remain quiet and stable for a longer period.

For silent closing:
- Soft-close hinges
- Attach rubber buffers to the frame
- Tighten screws

This is usually enough to prevent most noises.

After a day of testing and installation attempts, I would like to provide a summary and ask a follow-up question:

Adjusting the hinges along all three axes is truly the key.
The combination of soft-close hinges, high-quality screws, and rubber bumpers at contact points has noticeably reduced noise for me.

My question now is: Does anyone know the optimal adjustment for the soft-close mechanism itself? Some soft-close hinges allow you to adjust the damping strength. Are there any practical recommendations on whether it is better to set the damping stronger or somewhat softer to increase durability?

Thanks in advance!
