ᐅ How can I retrofit soft-close hinges to Ikea Metod cabinet doors?

HUNORFEGood morning everyone, I have a question and hope to benefit from your experiences and tips:
I own an Ikea Metod kitchen front without a soft-close feature, but I would like to add it afterward. Specifically, I’m referring to the Metod doors, which currently use standard hinges without damping.
My question is: How can I install a soft-close function on these existing doors without replacing the entire doors or hinges?
Are there special soft-close retrofit kits that are easy to install and compatible with the existing Metod hinges? Should I pay attention to a specific screw or drilling position to attach the soft-close components?
I want to keep the effort for the upgrade as low as possible, but of course, the result should be durable and reliable.
I would be very grateful for any advice, tips on parts, or personal experiences!

Hey, great question! I recently did exactly this myself. 🎉
There are retrofit kits available from IKEA that are specifically designed for Metod hinges and can be easily attached to the existing holes. So you don’t need to replace the doors or hinges completely!
It’s important to carefully measure the position of the soft-close dampers before installation to ensure the mechanism works smoothly. I followed the included installation instructions exactly, and everything fit perfectly without any issues.
You’ll notice that soft-close adds a lot of convenience. Enjoy upgrading your cabinets!

If the hinges are of an older type, it is advisable to check beforehand whether the drilling positions are compatible.
Alternatively, there are retrofit dampers available from third-party suppliers that can work with some DIY skills, but the original solution is recommended for maximum fit and durability.

Retrofitting sounds good in theory, but at first, I was a bit hesitant about the installation because the screw holes didn’t seem perfectly symmetrical to me.
If you’re unsure, it’s best to take some time to measure and align everything carefully – I have the impression that even small deviations can later cause doors to rub.
As with many DIY projects, patience is your best ally!
