Hello everyone,

I am currently facing a common issue during the installation of my Ikea Metod kitchen cabinet fronts: the doors are not closing properly. Some of them stick or are slightly misaligned.

I am especially interested in how to optimize the installation and fine adjustment of the doors so that all of them close precisely and evenly, without gaps or sagging.

Does anyone have tips on how to proceed to avoid errors from the start? Are there any proven tricks for adjusting the hinges or preparing the fronts and cabinet boxes?

Perhaps advice on the right tools or the order of assembly?

I would like to avoid having to readjust or fuss with each door multiple times afterward.

Thanks for your experiences and advice!

Hello FREDERIC62,

I am very familiar with your topic because door installation is a crucial aspect of Metod that is often underestimated. Achieving a precise fit requires a systematic approach.

First, you should consider the following:

- Check the cabinet walls for squareness and flatness. If the cabinet is not perfectly aligned, it will be difficult to install the doors correctly.
- The hinges on Ikea Metod cabinets are usually adjustable in three dimensions (height, depth, side-to-side). Accurate adjustment is key here.
- Before screwing in the doors, always position the hinge plates on the cabinet so that the door fits correctly in the initial position.
- For fine tuning: first adjust the in-out alignment, then the sideways adjustment, and finally the height.

Tools: A good Allen wrench, a small screwdriver for fine adjustments, and a level to check the cabinet are helpful.

It is important to check the doors on a flat surface before installation to see if they are warped or not. Sometimes this can be the cause of problems.

Have you measured the cabinet and doors exactly? How stable is the furniture already? All further adjustments only work if the base is correct.

Hello FREDERIC62,

I’m adding a brief step-by-step guide for Palenar that has proven effective many times:

1. Check the cabinet carcass:
- Make sure the carcass is perfectly plumb and level.
- Verify all angles with a carpenter’s square.

2. Install the hinge:
- Initially, only loosely screw the hinge parts to the carcass, do not fully tighten yet.
- Hang the door and roughly adjust its position.

3. Adjust the hinges:
- Lateral adjustment: aligns the door horizontally.
- Depth adjustment: allows the door to rest flush against the cabinet front.
- Height adjustment: for a perfect fit at the top and bottom.

4. Final check:
- Once all doors are installed, check that the gaps are even.
- Use a small spacer as a measuring tool.

Common mistakes:
- Tightening hinges too much before adjustment.
- Leaving doors hanging and not checking immediately.
- Carcass not stable in the room.

One more tip: If you experience problems with gaps or large tolerances, fine-tuning the hinge plates on the carcass wall can help. Pre-drilling small holes improves precision.

I also recommend adjusting the doors in the order of installation and periodically retightening.

Keep the door hinges loose at first, hang all the doors, then adjust them step by step.
Always release tension; only tighten once everything is properly aligned.

Hello FREDERIC62,

to get your doors for the Ikea Metod system to fit perfectly, make sure to take enough time for the adjustments. It also helps to use a small magnifying glass or a flashlight to check the gaps more precisely.

In my experience, a lot depends on how cleanly the hinges are screwed in and whether they are slightly bent or damaged (which can sometimes happen).

If you are using magnetic or other door-closing mechanisms, also check that these are not interfering.

Patience is really a virtue here: first, loosen all the hinges, hang the doors, and then try all adjustment options step by step until the door fits perfectly.

If you avoid rough handling like pressing too hard, nothing can get out of shape.

Thanks in advance to everyone who has responded!

A few details that might be helpful for troubleshooting:

- The cabinet carcass is relatively stable and appears to be square.
- I have metal hinges with 3D adjustment, but at first I fixed the doors very tightly because I thought that would provide stability.
- Some doors currently stick when closing, while others have slight gaps that are uneven.

Is there a recommended sequence for adjusting the screws on the hinges?
For example, should you adjust depth first, then lateral, then height?

Also, how tight should the screws be before fine-tuning the adjustments?

Thanks again!
