selami63Hello everyone,
I recently installed a kitchen with Ikea Metod cabinets including doors. I noticed that the doors warped slightly after a short time and sometimes make loud banging or scraping noises when closing. My question to the experienced DIYers here: How can I attach Ikea Metod doors so that they close quietly and, above all, remain stable and durable in the long term?
I am looking for a method or tips to both minimize noise and improve the durability of the door fittings. Are there special mounting materials, hinge adjustments, or other tricks that work particularly well with Metod doors?
I look forward to your experiences and advice!

Hello selami63,
I am quite familiar with your concern. Kitchen cabinets often have issues with the doors, especially with daily use.
I would recommend paying close attention to adjusting the hinges during installation. The Ikea Metod hinges can be adjusted in three dimensions (up/down, side to side, depth), which helps to align the doors precisely.
Additionally, I have often found that retrofitting soft-close buffers or soft door stops significantly reduces noise.
I also think it’s important to regularly check the screws, as they tend to loosen over time and can increase noise.

Could you please explain in more detail how to adjust the hinges correctly? I feel like I can make some adjustments, but I’m not sure how precise the alignment needs to be.
Also, I’m wondering if it’s advisable to switch completely to soft-close hinges – does anyone have experience with their durability compared to standard hinges?
Regarding hinge adjustment:
- Lateral: Screw adjusts the door horizontally.
- Depth adjustment: Hinge moves closer to or further from the cabinet.
- Vertical: Realign the mounting holes.
Soft-close hinges are generally more durable because they cushion the closing noise and reduce wear.
