ᐅ How can I properly adjust IKEA Metod cabinet doors to ensure they close flush?

Hello everyone, I recently installed the IKEA Metod kitchen cabinet doors, but some of the doors do not close flush, resulting in uneven gaps when shut. I understand these doors are fitted with 3D hinges that allow adjustment in height, depth, and sideways. However, I haven’t been able to get all the doors to close evenly and flush. Is there a systematic way to precisely adjust the Metod doors, particularly to achieve uniform gaps and a flush finish? I would appreciate any advice on the adjustment screws, effective steps to take, or common mistakes to avoid.

Yesterday, I checked the doors again using a spirit level and a small screwdriver. I noticed that the lower doors in my unit are slightly misaligned, even though the cabinet itself is perfectly level. Is it normal for Metod hinges to cause the doors to warp slightly if they are adjusted incorrectly? Is there a trick to completely prevent this so-called "tilting movement" of the doors?

The slight tilting or misalignment of IKEA Metod cabinet doors is usually caused by uneven adjustment of the three hinge adjustment points. The height adjustment controls the vertical alignment, the lateral adjustment influences the gap and alignment with the adjacent cabinet, and the depth setting ensures the door closes flush.

Tip:
- Adjust the height first to set the door perfectly horizontal.
- Then adjust the depth until the door sits flush with the cabinet frame.
- Finally, use the lateral adjustment to achieve equal gaps on both sides.

If the adjustment on one hinge is not proportional to the other, the door may tilt or hang unevenly. It is important to adjust all hinges of a door together and occasionally check that the door is properly aligned.

I had the problem that the doors were closing unevenly. What helped me was loosening the screws slightly, adjusting the door into position, and then tightening the screws again. Always start with the height adjustment first, then proceed to depth and lateral position. If you turn one setting too much, it will immediately affect the other adjustments.

That sounds interesting. Is it common with Metod hinges to loosen the screws in order to manually adjust the door position? I always set them statically, without loosening the screws, just turning them. Does loosening the screws improve the fit, or could it potentially damage the mechanism?

IKEA Metod hinges come pre-assembled, and the adjustable screws usually don’t need to be fully loosened to adjust the door.

Adjustment is made using the three screws on the hinge, which allow precise alignment of the door in height, depth, and sideways. Fully loosening the screws and then shifting the door carries the risk that the hinges may slip or be misaligned.

I recommend instead turning the individual adjustment screws gradually with light force. Loosen them only slightly or when there is a clear misalignment, usually without removing the screws completely.

Also, make sure not to pull the door by the handle or front panel to avoid warping.
