Hello everyone,

I recently bought some IKEA Platsa furniture and was wondering what types of repairs can generally be done on these pieces without professional help. I am especially interested in minor issues such as damaged doors, loose hinges, or possible problems with drawer slides.

Does anyone have experience with which repairs are easily doable at home, which tools are ideally needed, and if there are any common weak points with Platsa furniture to watch out for?

I am particularly interested in repair options that can be carried out with common household tools and without necessarily having to order replacement parts from IKEA. Thanks in advance for your tips!

Hey ilse35, that’s a great question! 😊 I repair my PLATSA myself, and there are actually quite a few things you can easily handle.

- Adjusting doors or replacing hinges is pretty straightforward with a screwdriver and some patience!
- If the drawers stick, just clean the rails or apply a little lubricant.
- You can fix small dents or scratches with wood filler.

What you definitely need is a good Phillips screwdriver, a set of Allen keys, and some basic DIY skills. My advice: don’t get discouraged—repairs are often much simpler than you think! Enjoy fixing things! 🚀

If the drawers stick, simply clean or lightly oil the tracks.

This is an important point, especially with PLATSA, where the tracks and rollers can often get blocked by dust or small particles.

Additional tips:
- Loose connections like screws and joints on corner pieces or base parts can also be easily tightened.
- Replacing damaged shelves is often doable yourself if you have matching replacement boards.
- For faulty doors, replacing the hardware often helps, and IKEA usually supplies these parts at a low cost.

Tools: Phillips and flathead screwdrivers, hex key (Allen wrench), and possibly a small hammer for adjusting the hardware.

If you want to replace specific parts, I recommend contacting IKEA beforehand to request the appropriate spare parts, as most are available on request.

Adjusting doors, tightening screws, and cleaning drawer slides are the most common and easily manageable repairs. Tools: a screwdriver, Allen key, and some oil are usually sufficient. Weak points often include the hinges and the rollers in the drawers.
