Hello everyone,

I am currently facing the challenge of disassembling an Ikea Hemnes piece of furniture (specifically a chest of drawers with multiple drawers) to prepare it for moving. I have noticed that disassembling it is sometimes not as intuitive as assembling it. My questions are: What common problems occur when taking apart an Ikea Hemnes? Are there typical areas where extra care is needed to avoid damage? And are there recommended methods or tools that make disassembly easier? I want to proceed as professionally as possible to be able to reassemble the furniture later without any issues.

Thank you in advance for your experiences and tips!

One aspect that is often underestimated is damage to the edges of the pine wood, which can cause problems during reassembly later on. With Hemnes, you should therefore assemble and disassemble the furniture as carefully as possible.

Additionally, it is advisable to position the screws in the center when loosening them and to use the tool correctly to avoid stripping the screw heads. A calm, patient approach helps protect the material.

That’s a very useful tip I hadn’t considered before! Thanks for that.

I’m also curious if you have any experience with how many times a Hemnes piece of furniture can be assembled and disassembled without losing quality? Are there any known guidelines on whether the stability significantly decreases after multiple disassemblies? Or are there specific parts that are especially prone to wear and tear from repeated assembling and disassembling?

The furniture will probably need to be moved again in a few years, so it would be helpful to know its limits.
