Hello everyone, I am currently considering buying the Ikea Hemnes wardrobe. Before making my decision, I would like to know if there are any common issues with the Hemnes wardrobe that I should pay special attention to during purchase and assembly. I have read that some users experienced problems with stability, assembly, or material quality. Can anyone share their personal experience regarding the weaknesses of this piece of furniture? I am especially interested in potential pitfalls during assembly, material wear over time, and practicality in everyday use. Thanks in advance for your insights!

Wood with a colored surface, like in the Hemnes, is sensitive to high humidity or direct sunlight – over time, this can cause warping or fading. Therefore, I recommend not placing the cabinet directly next to radiators or windows. The quality of assembly also significantly affects durability – if unsure, it is better to have a second person assist with the installation.
I find the hype around the Hemnes quite interesting. Of course, the wardrobe isn’t perfect, but who expects a premium product at such a low price? I would argue that most problems result from inaccurate assembly. If you carefully follow the instructions and work precisely, you get a great wardrobe. Personally, the fact that the back panel isn’t extremely rigid doesn’t bother me; it serves its purpose for stabilization. I think the exaggerated alarmism is unnecessary.

The hinges can be a bit tricky and require patience during adjustmentThat makes sense, thanks for the tip! I will definitely make sure to allow enough time for adjusting the doors.

Wood with a colored finish like the Hemnes is sensitive to high humidity or direct sunlightThat’s another great tip! I hadn’t thought much about the wall location and am now reconsidering the placement to avoid those effects.
Does anyone have experience with how scratch-resistant this material is? I live with pets and want to avoid the surface getting damaged quickly.
Unfortunately, the Hemnes is not completely scratch-resistant. Scratches are especially noticeable on the white painted wood compared to darker finishes. I have tried to reduce this by using felt pads and minimizing stress on the doors. If you have pets, I would recommend considering additional protection for the corners and edges, for example with transparent protective film. This can significantly extend the lifespan of the surface.
I can confirm that! I also have two cats, and although my Hemnes cabinets have held up well, they have gotten a few small scratches here and there. But no need to worry, it’s not a disaster – with some care and caution, they really last quite a long time. Don’t be discouraged, the cabinet is definitely worth it! 😊
