Hello everyone, I have an issue with my IKEA Hemnes wardrobe: it does not stand level and gives way slightly when touched, or rather it has a slight wobble, which feels unstable. It seems that one or more of the four legs do not sit properly on the floor, or the material might be warping. Despite carefully following the assembly instructions multiple times and retightening all the screws, the problem has not improved.
I’m particularly interested in what methods you use to fix this: Do you need to use special shims, furniture glides, or other leveling elements? What is the best approach for uneven floors? And are there long-term solutions to permanently prevent this give or wobble?
I look forward to your tips and experiences!

Here is a brief guide on how to identify and fix wobbling in Hemnes furniture:
1. Check that all screws at the cabinet joints are fully tightened.
2. Use a spirit level to test if the floor at the location is truly even.
3. If the floor is uneven, you can use furniture wedges made of plastic or wood to level the cabinet accordingly.
4. For smooth floors (tile, parquet), additional non-slip pads on the feet are recommended to compensate for minor unevenness.
5. If possible, slightly sand or shim the cabinet legs to adjust for small height differences.
Please ensure that any shimming material is not too thick to maintain stability. The goal is to achieve even floor contact and prevent rocking movements.

The Hemnes wardrobe is prone to minor floor unevenness due to its construction, as the feet are fixed. I recommend the following:
- Review the assembly steps and tighten all connections thoroughly once more.
- Use a digital level to accurately determine where the furniture is not standing evenly.
- Use thin universal shims (e.g., made of plastic or cork) to place under the legs to compensate for height differences.
- If necessary, remove the back panel and reinstall it with the correct tension, as a loose back panel can make the wardrobe unstable.
Especially with older Hemnes wardrobes, the wood may be slightly warped, which also affects stability. If in doubt, try moving the furniture a bit away from the wall until you find the optimal position and compensate for any unevenness.

To determine the causes accurately, it makes sense to approach the issue in a structured way: Thank you for the detailed approach. I don’t actually have a digital level, but I do have a simple spirit level that provides a fairly good reference.

2. Use a level to see if the floor at that spot is truly even. I’ve done that; the screws are tight, and the floor seems fairly level, with only minor, minimal unevenness.
Do you have experience with whether it can be counterproductive to firmly fix small wooden dowels or shims under the legs? Some recommend this, but I’m concerned it might create pressure points that could warp the wood.

Do you have any experience with whether it can be counterproductive to firmly fix small wooden dowels or pads under furniture legs? That is a valid concern. If the pads are not flexible, they can actually cause point loads and potentially lead to long-term deformation of the wood. For this reason, I recommend using smooth, well-rounded, and thin plastic or cork pads that provide slight flexibility and do not create pressure points to prevent uneven pressure.
A firm attachment is usually unnecessary—you can simply place the pads loosely under the legs to adjust the height. If the floor changes slightly (due to movement, humidity), the material adapts better without generating mechanical stress.
