ᐅ What priority should be given to wall anchoring when assembling the IKEA Brimnes?

I recently assembled the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe and am wondering: How important is wall anchoring when building the Brimnes? I know that IKEA generally recommends securing furniture to prevent tipping, but how critical is this specifically for the Brimnes? Are there any practical experiences or technical reasons that make wall anchoring particularly important or possibly overrated in this case? I would like to understand the risks of skipping the anchoring and whether there are alternative ways to secure the piece. Thanks for your input!

Hello zarja and everyone reading, I would like to add that IKEA’s recommendation to secure the furniture to the wall is not only for liability reasons but is a serious safety consideration. Although the Brimnes appears sturdy, it includes moving parts such as drawers and doors, which can cause imbalance if it is not properly secured—especially when multiple drawers are opened at the same time. Wall mounting acts like an anchor and prevents accidental tipping. When installing, please keep the following in mind:

- Identify the wall type (dimensions/material)
- Use suitable anchors (e.g., expansion anchors for concrete, hollow wall anchors for drywall)
- Attach brackets carefully and check that they are firmly secured

An alternative to the standard anchor set could be additional reinforcement, such as furniture brackets, if the supplied mounting hardware does not fit optimally. Ultimately, I strongly recommend treating the wall attachment as a mandatory safety measure rather than optional equipment. If you have questions about specific wall types or tools, I am happy to help.
