ᐅ Why does my Malm bed wobble even though it is secured to the wall?

marton45I have a Malm bed from IKEA that I have already attached to the wall to finally avoid the annoying wobbling. Despite proper wall attachment and tightly secured screws, I still notice slight movement when I shift on it, especially when sitting down or getting up. The wobbling is not strong, but clearly noticeable.
My question: Why does my Malm bed wobble despite being fixed to the wall? Are there any known weak points with this model or specific installation instructions that I might have overlooked? I am using the original IKEA wall brackets and have also checked the mattress – it shouldn’t be the cause.
I look forward to well-informed tips or experiences that could help me finally get the bed stable.

Wobbling despite wall mounting on a Malm bed can have several causes. First, it is important not only that the wall mounting is secure but also that all connections on the bed frame itself, especially the screws at the sides and at the headboard and footboard, are tightly fastened.
This suggests that the wall mounting is of good quality, but the bed frame may be wobbling on its own joints due to internal movement. Also, check if the floor is level and whether the bed is standing firmly. Sometimes, using small washers or feet can help.

The Malm bed looks really stylish but can sometimes be a bit like a shy deer – it doesn’t want to stay completely still ;-)
If all the screws on the wall and the bed frame are tightened properly, the wobbling might actually be caused by the mattress itself, especially if it’s an innerspring mattress that has some bounce or if the slatted frame has some play.
So: more pillows to help stabilize the bed? 😉
Jokes aside, try fully securing the slatted frame and check if all the slats are properly in place.

On the topic "Why does my Malm bed wobble despite wall mounting?": A key factor is the quality of the wall mounting itself. IKEA usually provides dowels and screws for standard walls; for hollow walls or uneven masonry walls, the load capacity is reduced.
Many underestimate this. An uneven floor or small gaps under the bed legs cause the bed to move. A very secure wall mounting alone helps little if the bed stands on unstable legs.

One way to reduce the wobbling is to add extra reinforcements inside the bed frame, for example, with small brackets at the corners.
