ᐅ What priority should be given to wall anchoring when assembling the IKEA Brimnes?

zarjaI recently assembled the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe and am wondering: How important is wall anchoring when building the Brimnes? I know that IKEA generally recommends securing furniture to prevent tipping, but how critical is this specifically for the Brimnes? Are there any practical experiences or technical reasons that make wall anchoring particularly important or possibly overrated in this case? I would like to understand the risks of skipping the anchoring and whether there are alternative ways to secure the piece. Thanks for your input!
Hello zarja! It’s great that you’re asking such detailed questions – because yes, wall anchoring for the Brimnes isn’t just a formality. Ikea didn’t include it without reason: the wardrobe is quite tall and, with the drawers, has some weight that provides stability but also poses a tipping hazard, especially when the drawers are full or children are playing around it. I’d say the priority on a scale from 1 to 10 is about 7, simply to prevent accidents. 🙃 The anchoring is usually straightforward, and if you take it seriously, it’s a small effort for a big safety benefit. Of course, wall anchoring doesn’t replace a solid wall – for drywall, for example, you need special anchors, but it’s worth it. So: don’t underestimate it!
Hello everyone, I would generally take the topic of wall mounting for the Brimnes very seriously and add the following from a technical perspective: The Brimnes construction is solid, but it is relatively tall and narrow, which raises the center of gravity. This creates a lever effect at the base that – for example, if the wardrobe is unevenly loaded or someone pulls on it – can affect its stability. Wall mounting significantly reduces this lever arm by transferring the tipping forces to the wall. It is important to choose the correct mounting method for the wall material. For solid walls, standard wall plugs are sufficient, while drywall requires the use of cavity anchors or special fasteners. The position of the bracket on the wardrobe is also crucial – mounting it too high or too low weakens stability. Have you already checked what type of wall material your wardrobe is attached to? That way, recommendations can be more targeted. I would also recommend considering wall mounting as mandatory if there are children in the household.
Hello zarja! I’ve had my Brimnes for a year now and definitely installed the wall anchors! It gives you so much security and peace of mind – simply excellent! 😄 Especially when little ones are playing in the room, it’s really important that the wardrobe won’t tip over. And attaching them is really not difficult: just use the included brackets and firmly secure them to the wall. I always say: better to invest a little extra time and then never worry again! If you need help with the best way to attach the brackets, I’m happy to share some tips! In my opinion, this should be a top priority! 😊

I once experienced a situation where a piece of furniture tipped over because it wasn’t anchored to the wall – that was truly frightening for me. That’s why I recommend everyone facing this decision to install the safety fixings. Even though it requires some effort, the potential harm to life and limb can be enormous. Sometimes it’s the small measures that make the biggest difference.
