Hello everyone,

I recently purchased the Ikea Brimnes chest of drawers with four drawers. Since I want to store quite a bit of small items in it, I’m looking for efficient ways to organize the storage space inside the drawers. I’m especially interested in which systems or accessories you use to divide the space, how to make the most space-efficient use of the drawers, and if there are any tips tailored specifically to the dimensions and material of the Brimnes drawers.

It would also be helpful if you could address different use cases, such as whether clothing, office supplies, or household items can be stored particularly well in them.

How do you best organize the storage space in Ikea Brimnes drawers without it becoming messy or disorganized quickly? I look forward to your experiences and suggestions!

For electronics, it’s helpful to use cable reels or cable ties in advance,

Exactly! When you bundle cables together with small clamps or spiral wraps, everything stays really neat. For me, this made all the difference; otherwise, everything was always all over the place.

Another tip: use transparent materials for the boxes, as this makes it easier to see inside. You can immediately tell what’s inside without having to unpack everything. This saves time and hassle!

For efficient organization of the Ikea Brimnes drawers, it is advisable to consider the following points:

- The Brimnes drawers have internal dimensions of approximately 51 cm (20 inches) width, 47 cm (18.5 inches) depth, and 12 cm (5 inches) height.
- Divider elements should be flat and adjustable, such as flexible plastic inserts with variable positioning options.
- For textiles, sorting by folding techniques is ideal, for example the KonMari method, which allows vertical storage and improves visibility.
- For office supplies, using small containers of various sizes that work as a modular system is recommended.

This creates a clear structure. It is important not to overload the drawers to avoid impairing their functionality.

Good tip, thanks! Do you or anyone else use these modular systems from IKEA, or do you have other favorites? I’m curious how the limited height of the Brimnes drawer works in practice.

Also, I would like to know if anyone has experience with custom-made wooden or MDF dividers. Are they really practical, or do they tend to be too time-consuming?

I am interested in how the limited height of the Brimnes drawer is managed.

The height of the drawers (about 12 cm (5 inches)) is indeed a limitation.

Therefore, the dividers or boxes used should not be too bulky. I recommend flat dividers made of plastic, cardboard, or thin wood, which can be easily cut and adjusted.

Regarding custom-made wooden or MDF dividers: they are very sturdy and durable but require more effort in planning, cutting, and cleaning. For lasting organization and if you are handy, they are definitely worthwhile.

Another recommendation is to combine adjustable dividers with smaller boxes, allowing flexible adaptation to changing needs.

I always use simple flexible plastic dividers that can be adjusted in height as needed. They work well with the Brimnes. For different categories, I use containers of various sizes, which makes emptying and refilling much easier.
