Hello everyone, I recently bought the IKEA Brimnes bedroom set and want to install the individual pieces – especially the wardrobes and shelves – without creating visible drill holes in the walls, since I live in a rental apartment and want to avoid damage as much as possible. My question is: How exactly does wall mounting work with IKEA Brimnes without drilling holes? Does IKEA offer any special solutions or accessories that allow secure fixing without drilling? I would like to know which mounting methods are possible, how stable they are, and whether it is possible to avoid using traditional wall plugs and screws. I would be very grateful for your detailed tips and experiences!

Hey Anliku, great question – I’ve been wondering about that myself when I got my Brimnes set! 😃 The clever thing with IKEA is that they have developed many furniture connector systems that require little or no drilling. For example, the Brimnes uses so-called clamp or tension fasteners, which often work with special metal brackets that you clamp onto the wall to secure the furniture without making holes! However, keep in mind that for really heavy pieces, this may not always be secure, so they also offer adhesive pads or hooks that you can sometimes use. Check the IKEA instructions – they often explain this in detail! You’ve got this, no worries!

Anliku, the Brimnes system is mostly secured using screw hooks that you screw into the wall. Without drilling, you can only use strong adhesive strips or double hooks, but these are not very stable for heavy furniture. A secure fixation without drill holes is rare. It’s best to use the wall mounting hardware provided.

Hello Anliku, I understand your concern about wall-friendly mounting. To give you a precise answer, here is a brief overview:

- IKEA Brimnes furniture usually comes with a traditional wall mounting system, where metal brackets are fixed to the wall using screws and wall plugs.
- There is no official IKEA solution without drilling, as the furniture requires at least one anchor point for stability.
- Alternatives such as very strong 3M adhesive pads or hooks exist, but these are only suitable for very lightweight furniture or as an additional safety measure.
- Another option is so-called tension rods or clamps, for example for shelves that work between floor and ceiling, but due to the design, these do not work with Brimnes furniture.

My advice: If the wall should remain undamaged, you should arrange this in advance with your landlord or possibly position the furniture so it is self-supporting, and if necessary, secure it minimally with corner brackets as a fallback.

The IKEA Brimnes is not designed to be secured without drilling holes, as the furniture typically requires metal wall brackets that are screwed in to ensure stability. Alternatively, in some cases, self-adhesive furniture anchors can be used, but these do not provide the same level of security. This is especially important if there are children in the household or if the piece of furniture is used frequently. For rental properties where drilling is not allowed, a different type of furniture might be more suitable.

Hello Anliku, I can understand your situation well. Brimnes furniture usually consists of heavy pieces that should definitely be secured to the wall to prevent tipping hazards. The hardware provided by IKEA generally requires wall plugs and screws. If you prefer not to drill, you could consider the following options:

- High-strength adhesive mounts (e.g., special 3M furniture adhesives) – however, stability is limited.
- Wedge the furniture between other pieces or lean it against the wall, but this does not replace proper securing.
- Tension rods that extend from floor to ceiling for additional stability (works a bit differently than with Brimnes).

Unfortunately, these methods are not a one-to-one substitute for screw fastening and could increase the risk of accidents. If you live in a rental property, it might be worth discussing small wall drillings with your landlord; often, these can be easily repaired with filler after moving out.
