My question for the experienced users: How can you disassemble the Ikea BRIMNES without causing any damage? Are there any special tools or techniques I should be aware of? I’m especially interested in the best way to remove the back panel, hinges, and the connecting fittings to keep the structure intact. Any tips are much appreciated!
Disassembling the Ikea BRIMNES requires a systematic approach to avoid damage. Begin by:
- Removing the drawers by pulling them out completely and carefully releasing the clips.
- Detaching the doors from the hinges using a screwdriver, applying only gentle pressure to avoid damaging the wood.
- To remove the back panel, ideally use a small crowbar or a flat screwdriver to carefully loosen the nails or staples; never use force.
- To loosen the connecting fittings, a suitable Allen wrench is recommended, as using the wrong tool can round off the fasteners.
Keep the work area clean and organize the screws to ensure easy reassembly later.

Remove the drawers completely, unscrew the hinges, carefully detach the back panel, and remove the fittings with the appropriate Allen key. Always proceed gently.I agree with this, but would like to add that it is important not to force the clips on the back panel, as this can compromise stability. It is also advisable to first loosen a screw on the upper frame to make it easier to disassemble the entire structure.
Without the usual annoying knocking, it’s almost impossible to assemble the BRIMNES, but I always place a soft cloth under the parts when taking them apart. And the back panel? Just pull gently, it’s quite delicate. For tools, I use a small cordless drill with the appropriate bit – it makes everything much easier.
