Hello everyone, I recently bought the IKEA Brimnes bedroom set and want to install the individual pieces – especially the wardrobes and shelves – without creating visible drill holes in the walls, since I live in a rental apartment and want to avoid damage as much as possible. My question is: How exactly does wall mounting work with IKEA Brimnes without drilling holes? Does IKEA offer any special solutions or accessories that allow secure fixing without drilling? I would like to know which mounting methods are possible, how stable they are, and whether it is possible to avoid using traditional wall plugs and screws. I would be very grateful for your detailed tips and experiences!

Unfortunately, these methods are not a one-to-one replacement for screw fastening and could increase the risk of accidents.

Exactly! It’s better not to experiment with heavy furniture. At my place, I secured the Brimnes normally with screws, and you can immediately feel that it’s sturdy. If you don’t want to drill, just ask your landlord—many are quite flexible as long as you properly repair any damage. ?

Thank you for your replies! I was afraid there wouldn’t be any official “drill-free” solution. Regarding landlords, I wanted to add: unfortunately, I have a very strict landlord who does not allow any holes in the walls. Therefore, I’m really looking for a way to secure the furniture nonetheless. Can you recommend any adhesive systems or other methods that offer a good balance of stability and wall-friendliness? Ideally, the furniture would still be safely protected against tipping over.

That’s a classic dilemma! 😅 Since drilling is not allowed, arranging furniture feels like solving a cube puzzle. I had a similar situation once and tried using strong adhesive tapes (really heavy-duty, industrial strength) along with foam wedges: The furniture stays secure because it’s slightly wedged, and the adhesive tape on the back helps. Of course, it’s not as sturdy as screwing it in, but under moderate load, it works without damaging the wall. Maybe this could be an option for you? Just make sure to check if your floor and the furniture surfaces can handle it!

Leomo puts it clearly. If no holes can be made, then the panels can only be secured with adhesive tape and panel wedging. However, this will not make it truly stable. If you don't want to take the risk, the only option is minimal fastening or no project with Brimnes.

A brief guide to safe fixation without drilling:

1. Check the allowed load capacity of the wall and furniture.
2. Use high-strength adhesive pads with good backside adhesion (e.g., 3M Command Strips).
3. Add tension wedges between furniture and ceiling or floor for additional stability.
4. Position furniture so it doesn’t stand alone but is connected to a stable unit or group of furniture.
5. Avoid load-intensive areas, such as tall shelves or cabinets with heavy contents.

Summary: No screws mean no full protection, but with a clever combination of adhesive and wedging techniques, tipping can at least be prevented. Pure adhesive solutions rarely hold permanently!

I’ll keep it brief: Brimnes requires screws and wall anchors for secure mounting. No drilling means no secure attachment. Alternatives like adhesive strips or tension mounts are only suitable for lightweight furniture.
