Hello,

is there any advantage of the lower drawers compared to the medium-height ones? (Apart from the lower price)

Unfortunately, I only noticed the difference during assembly; the design software selected the lower drawers for many base cabinets and tall cabinets...

With those, I can’t install divider inserts, for example...

Therefore, I want to switch everything to the medium-height drawers and return the lower ones (all still packed). Is there any reason not to do that?

I’m referring to the drawers with 20cm (8 inches) high fronts.

I would appreciate any tips.

Good luck, simon84

Hello Simon,
I would base my choice solely on the appearance.
The great thing about Metod is that you can "hide" different drawers behind every panel. For example, if you want four small ones but have a 40cm (16 inches) panel, or two medium ones and a 40cm (16 inches) panel, everything is possible!

@Doppelspüle
The lowest front panel in my setup seems to be installed correctly, as it is aligned with the hinged doors of the tall cabinets.
The only explanation I can think of for the difference in my case is that the carcass for the cooktop cabinet is a standard 60cm (24 inch) cabinet, not the specialized "cooktop carcass." It’s possible that this one has the drill holes for NYTTIG slightly lower, which is why I need a shallow drawer at the top.
I bought the carcass for 9.90 in the bargain bin, so I did not install the cooktop carcass there.
Hello,

Well, if you only have cutlery, napkins, or other flat items inside, why choose the medium ones?

I like having three heights, better than just two options before.
Yes, you’re right. But with the 80cm (31.5 inches) base units, I think the option with dividers is great for better organization, even with 20cm (8 inches) fronts.

My kitchen looked like this after planning, from left to right, bottom to top:

Base unit 80cm (under sloped ceiling, less frequently used pots, utensils, etc.)
40cm (16 inches) high drawer
20cm (8 inches) low drawer
20cm (8 inches) low drawer

Base unit 80cm (left still sloped, right full ceiling height – sink, waste sorting)
40cm (16 inches) high drawer, 45cm (18 inches)
20cm (8 inches)
20cm (8 inches) low drawer, inside 37cm (15 inches)
All fronts connected
Sink 56x50cm (22x20 inches) black Hällviken

Dishwasher 60cm (24 inches) fully integrated
Front 40cm (16 inches) * 20cm (8 inches) * 20cm (8 inches) (699.245.32)

Base unit 80cm (cooktop, pots, pans, plates)
Useable countertop space
20cm (8 inches) low drawer
20cm (8 inches) medium drawer
20cm (8 inches) medium drawer
20cm (8 inches) medium drawer

Base unit 40cm (16 inches) (cutlery, accessories)
20cm (8 inches) low drawer
20cm (8 inches) low drawer
20cm (8 inches) low drawer
20cm (8 inches) low drawer

Fridge (free-standing)

Tall cabinet 60x220cm (24x87 inches) (oven, microwave, baking accessories)
20cm (8 inches) medium drawer
20cm (8 inches) medium drawer
20cm (8 inches) medium drawer
60cm (24 inches) oven
40cm (16 inches) microwave (initially as a single unit)
60cm (24 inches) door

Tall cabinet 60x220cm (24x87 inches) (food, additional dishes)
20cm (8 inches) medium drawer
20cm (8 inches) low drawer
20cm (8 inches) low drawer
100cm (39 inches) door
60cm (24 inches) door

I will now exchange all the low 20cm (8 inches) drawers except those under the cooktop and in the 40cm (16 inches) base unit for medium ones.

For the sink cabinet, I need to try whether a 45cm (18 inches) drawer could fit above once the siphon and everything else is installed.

Is it actually possible to return only brand-new, unopened drawers, or can I really uninstall them again? Because then I would also rebuild the drawers in the 40cm (16 inches) base unit…

In Germany, items purchased after August 25, 2014, should not be eligible for exchange if they are still in the original packaging but have been used.

In Austria, by the way, Ikea accepts used items that are no longer in their original packaging, but instead of cash, you receive an Ikea gift card loaded with the amount, which can only be spent at Ikea.
Also, Ikea in Austria takes back items bought at Ikea Bratislava, but naturally only refunds the price paid in Slovakia.
