ᐅ Low or Mid-Height Drawers

Hello,

is there any advantage of the lower drawers compared to the medium-height ones? (Apart from the lower price)

Unfortunately, I only noticed the difference during assembly; the design software selected the lower drawers for many base cabinets and tall cabinets...

With those, I can’t install divider inserts, for example...

Therefore, I want to switch everything to the medium-height drawers and return the lower ones (all still packed). Is there any reason not to do that?

I’m referring to the drawers with 20cm (8 inches) high fronts.

I would appreciate any tips.

Good luck, simon84

[Quote]Items purchased in Germany after August 25, 2014, should not be exchangeable if they are no longer in their original packaging and have been used.

By the way, in Austria, IKEA does accept returns of used items that are not in their original packaging, but they do not provide cash refunds. Instead, you receive an IKEA gift card loaded with the amount, which can only be spent at IKEA.
Also, IKEA in Austria accepts returns of items bought at IKEA Bratislava, but of course, only the Slovakian purchase price is refunded.

Oh, that wouldn’t be a problem since I’m buying a replacement anyway at a higher price. I’ll just give it a try now.

@Sektionschef
That will probably be the solution. I have the special carcasses with ventilation cutouts.

@Simon
As discussed just now between me and Sektionschef, if you have the special cooktop carcass, you can use a middle drawer with NYTTIG.

I also installed a normally deep drawer under the sink. However, that involved a bit of tinkering.

I equipped the siphon with a space-saving intermediate piece (because without it, not even a 45cm (18 inches) deep drawer would have fit), so it moves closer to the wall. Additionally, there is a built-in soap dispenser in the way and the faucet has a pull-out spray hose. So it’s quite tight at the back wall.
Nevertheless, I only had to cut the back panel down to 20cm (8 inches) wide at the location of the siphon and soap dispenser all the way to the floor. Inside the drawer, I then sectioned off a 20 x 20cm (8 x 8 inches) square with boards at the height of the drawer’s back wall (leftover parts of the second Nyttig cover, since it’s a 90cm (35 inches) cooktop). Only this part of the drawer is unusable.
It was also important to me not to cut the bottom in order to avoid unnecessarily reducing the drawer’s stability.

I installed the base cabinet for the cooktop with four medium drawers featuring 20cm (8 inches) fronts. Despite the Nyttig panel, everything works perfectly. I can double-check and compare it with the other base cabinets if needed, but I didn’t notice any difference in the modular grid, so it should also work with a standard carcass. The only difference seems to be the back panel.

Regarding the sink, yes, the drawer depths of 45cm (18 inches) and 37cm (15 inches) seemed a bit generous to me as well, but I will measure again precisely. It might be necessary to adjust the drain fitting or use a different one. In my case, the drain is in the wall, positioned quite far to the left at the bottom of the cabinet. I had to cut out almost the entire back panel. I’ll upload a photo when I get the chance.
