Hello everyone, I am currently about to assemble an Ikea Metod kitchen and would like to ask specific questions about the most common installation mistakes that occur with this kitchen series. I am particularly interested in which issues happen most often when mounting the cabinets and doors, such as misalignment, incorrect fastening, or other tricky pitfalls that might not be obvious at first glance. Are there also typical errors related to installing the drawer slides or hanging the fronts? I look forward to hearing about your experiences and tips so I can plan carefully from the start and avoid mistakes.

I think in this discussion one question should be raised: How much of the problem is due to actual installation errors and how much is caused by the rather minimal tolerances inherent in the system?

This is a really crucial point. Not every visible imperfection should automatically be classified as an installation error. The system-related tolerances become apparent, for example, in slightly uneven gaps between doors and drawers. This means that the design should also account for these deviations and include additional adjustment intervals. Although Ikea’s instructions are relatively comprehensive, they often lack practical guidance on tolerance interpretation. One tip: systematically check all parts for their dimensions before assembly and use markings.

I really appreciate that there is such a thorough discussion here! In my last assembly, I especially had trouble with the drawers: the rails needed to be installed at exactly the same height down to the millimeter, otherwise they would grind or hang unevenly. I also noticed when fitting the fronts that a lot of patience is required – even the smallest deviation is immediately noticeable! It’s best to roughly assemble everything first, then adjust step by step. And if something gets stuck, don’t immediately doubt the parts, but rather check the alignment of the screws and the furniture’s base.

One more thing I would like to add: Installing the upper and lower cabinets together can be a bit challenging. Many people make the mistake of not leveling the lower cabinets precisely, which then becomes noticeable in the cabinet carcasses. There are also cabinet hangers that need to be properly locked in place; otherwise, everything will be misaligned later on. So take your time, use a spirit level, and check every single component carefully. This will save you hassle and rework later! 😃

Great thread, this topic is really important! With my Metod kitchen from last year, I mainly learned that you need to carefully secure the hinge screws; otherwise, they loosen after a few weeks. Aligning the fronts properly also requires patience. Additionally, I recommend not rushing when installing the drawer slides – this is actually where most assembly errors happen, causing the drawers to stick or jam. In the end, taking your time and using measuring tools properly really pays off!
