Hello everyone, I have just started assembling an IKEA Metod kitchen unit and am facing the challenge of fitting the drawers with a soft-close clamping mechanism. The IKEA instructions for the standard Metod drawers clearly show how to install the side panels and drawer bottoms, but the removal and engagement of the soft-close clamping mechanism is not clearly explained for me.
I am specifically interested in how to correctly attach the soft-close fittings, the order of assembly steps to follow, and what to watch out for to ensure the drawers close smoothly and quietly. Are there any special tips for aligning the mechanism, specific adjustments, or common mistakes to avoid?
I look forward to your detailed advice or practical experience with this exact mechanism on the Metod drawers.

Pay close attention to the small plastic clips in the guide profile, which can sometimes get stuck or not slide smoothly, causing malfunctions.I can only confirm this from experience. I had a similar issue with sticking locking mechanisms during the installation of my kitchen.
I know how frustrating it can be when drawers don’t close properly and the soft-close feature doesn’t work either. It’s important not to get stressed and to carefully check the mechanism step by step without forcing it. Opening and closing the drawers a few times while monitoring their function can be very helpful.
Over time, you also start to notice how the individual parts work together perfectly. So it’s definitely worth staying patient!

I also view the plastic components somewhat critically: In my projects, it has sometimes been apparent that IKEA skimped on material quality here, which affects durability or smooth operation.
Does anyone have long-term experience with these soft-close clamping mechanisms? Do they hold up over time, or is there wear that impairs their function?
Two years ago, I installed the Metod drawers with soft-close.
The material holds up well, but it is very important to precisely adjust the drawers, as otherwise the mechanism can be damaged.
Wear caused by incorrect installation is more common than material fatigue.
Regularly check screws and clamps.

Pay close attention to the small plastic clips in the guide rail, which sometimes get stuck or don’t move smoothly; if so, it won’t work properly. Thanks, that was exactly the advice I needed. I had previously assumed the mechanism was completely maintenance-free and only needed to be assembled correctly. It makes sense that small plastic parts can be critical.
I will take the guides apart again and check the plastic components, possibly treating them lightly with silicone.
If anyone has tips on adjustment or wear due to aging, feel free to share!

Also, always check during installation whether the screws are loose. Sometimes a small readjustment is enough, and the mechanism works like new again!
Good luck with your project – it will definitely be worth it!
