Unfortunately, I couldn't find any suitable answers using the search function and am now hoping for your help. My new Metod kitchen with white Bodbyn fronts is supposed to include a refrigerator and a freezer. For space reasons, these cannot be installed in a tall cabinet, so they need to go under the countertop. Most good refrigerators are 88 cm (35 inches) tall, not 81.5 cm (32 inches) like IKEA’s models. I would like to install the following appliances:

Would it work if I order the IKEA cabinet boxes for the fridge and freezer (without the appliance) and then, for example, omit the plinth?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Frank

IKEA-Experte14 Feb 2016 22:29Hello,
usually, a cooling appliance is not installed inside a cabinet under the countertop. Instead, an under-counter unit is used, which is ventilated through the plinth.
In a base cabinet, you would only have a maximum niche height of 77 cm (30 inches) and would need a ventilation grille in the countertop above.

FrankA_399616 Feb 2016 00:23Thank you for the quick response. Am I not allowed to use the ones mentioned above? So basically just build underneath without a cabinet and then include a ventilation grille—this should work, right?

IKEA-Experte16 Feb 2016 10:30No, that is not possible.

FrankA_399619 Feb 2016 01:07Really? What exactly is the problem if I simply place an 88cm (35 inches) refrigerator on the floor and put the countertop over it? Of course, the front panel should be attached, and ventilation grilles will be installed in the countertop as well.
Background: I would prefer an A-rated refrigerator, and I find those with front ventilation rather impractical...
Thanks for the help so far!
