Hi everyone,
we are currently finalizing the specifications for our windows, which standardly come with 2 mushroom-head locking pins. This is described as "burglar-resistant."
Would you generally keep the number of mushroom-head locking pins as is?
Would you increase the number by default, and if so, how many?
Or would you only upgrade the windows on the ground floor or those that are easily accessible?
Thank you very much!

With RC2, there is a film in the window, right? The outer pane consists of two 4.5mm (7/32 inch) thick glass panes with a film in between.
Then you have RC2N… the glass isn’t reinforced, but the price difference is actually not that significant… Yes, you’re right. We have RC2N. We inquired about RC2. The local window manufacturer said that it would be very expensive. Possibly misinformation—I didn’t look into it further.

fromthisplace25 Aug 2022 08:37We have RC2 rated windows on the ground floor and standard glass on the upper floor. I cannot specify the price difference. To enhance burglary prevention, I would also suggest considering an intruder alarm system.

An intruder alarm system is like an airbag. Once it goes off, the damage is already done—the intruder is inside the house, so it’s essentially too late.
What they can grab quickly will still be gone, such as the car keys on the sideboard, for example.

Additionally, our motion detectors also function as an alarm system.

Professional burglars dress accordingly, and you’re unlikely to hear more than “Yeah, they’ve already cleaned out a lot of houses around here.”
And, with all due respect, considering the cost of alarm systems and cameras, I might as well install RC2-rated security all around, or even RC3 if I’m really worried, and have peace of mind. A perpetrator will give up after 2 minutes and move on to the neighbor...
Because usually, they only have shutters... or RC0-rated protection on the upper floor right next to the garage roof 😉
