Hello,
we are currently looking into the windows for our planned house. The police recommend installing RC2-rated windows for security, but these seem to be quite expensive. Have you installed such windows, and what additional costs should one expect for a window or patio door? For example, if only the patio door is made with RC2 security, will the glass panes look different compared to the other windows? How did you handle this?
Best regards
Sabine

Genuine RC2 requires manufacturing according to the manufacturer’s specifications and installation into suitable substructures.
The glazing must then be P4A, which is laminated safety glass consisting of two 4mm (5/32 inch) float glass panes with four interlayers of 0.38mm (0.015 inch) each in between.
Depending on the manufacturer, the glass panes must be bonded together or additional components installed to prevent the outer glass stop from resting against the glass.
A lockable handle and additional locking mechanisms as per approval are also required.
If all these criteria are met, we attach a label in the rebate and provide the builder with the technical documentation.
RC2 involves at least one hour more labor per sash, plus more expensive installation due to additional fixing points and significantly heavier glass.
There is also increased effort required for the documentation.

With us, it’s referred to as “based on RC2.”
That’s sufficient for me.
Additionally, a very simple alarm system with basic sound signals in case something was accidentally left open. And that’s enough for me.
The truly determined intruders just ring the doorbell anyway and then come in along with me.
